Kaberle

The Bruins have attempted to acquire Toronto defenseman Tomas Kaberle in the past — most famously at last June’s draft, where a deal involving Phil Kessel fell  through — and it looks like Kaberle and the Maple Leafs are headed toward a divorce, finally, this summer.

According to Steve Simmons of The Sun, Kaberle hates playing for head coach Ron Wilson. And after the Leafs’ loss to Atlanta Tuesday night, Wilson took the opportunity to take potshots at Kaberle and fellow veteran blueliner Francois Beauchemin for their poor plus/minus ratings. (more…)

Rask

BOSTON — Tonight the Bruins’ Seventh Player Award winner will be announced. The award is voted by the fans to pick the player that has most exceeded expectations. Past winners have included Cam Neely and Bill Guerin, and most recently Milan Lucic and David Krejci.

I don’t envy the fans’ task this season, with the Bruins as a whole underachieving all season. A team once thought to be a Stanley Cup contender is going to barely make the playoffs and will have only a slight chance at even winning a postseason series. The individual numbers are downright ugly, with defenseman Dennis Wideman sporting a minus-15 rating and would-be 30-goal scorer Michael Ryder featuring just 16 goals on his ledger.

So if I had to pick this year’s winner, I would go with rookie goaltender Tuukka Rask. (more…)

Ryder

BOSTON — While some could argue that rookie Brad Marchand or journeyman Trent Whitfield might be a better option in the Bruins’ lineup right now, head coach Claude Julien is sticking by winger Michael Ryder.

The veteran, who has scored just one goal in 17 games, is expected to be in his usual spot on right wing with center David Krejci and left winger Blake Wheeler tonight at TD Garden against Florida. Julien thinks he saw enough from Ryder in Tuesday night’s win at New Jersey to be encouraged about the forward’s potential production. (more…)

Seidenberg

BOSTON – Skating for a career-high average of 23:08 of ice time this season has agreed with Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, both before and after his trade from Florida to Boston.

In 15 games in black and gold, he has posted 2-7-9 totals to run his career-high offensive output to 4-28-32 in 77 games. When he acquired Seidenberg at the trade deadline, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli spoke of the defenseman’s improvement in all areas of the game even since last spring between Seidenberg’s Carolina Hurricanes and the Bruins. Don’t slobber in your Cheerios this morning thinking about something that might not come true, but the ESPN Mock Draft posted yesterday projects the Bruins as the No. 2 pick in the June draft and with that selection they would take Plymouth center Tyler Seguin. (more…)
