Julien has options; Thornton takes his

PHILADELPHIA — There was some concern about Shawn Thornton’s absence from the morning skate today at Wachovia Center, where the Bruins will go for a sweep in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Flyers.

As of 2 p.m. yesterday, Thornton seemed in fine spirits as he addressed the media. After the skate, head coach Claude Julien sort of alleviated worried about the Bruins’ rugged winger.

“He just exercised his option this morning,” said the coach. “We’ll leave it at that. But there shouldn’t be any questions on whether he’ll be in tonight. He’s fine.”

Still, Julien has a decision to make about who gets into the lineup in place of the injured David Krejci. Trent Whitfield and Brad Marchand both skated with Steve Begin during this morning’s line drills in Thornton’s absence. Julien said during his press conference that Whitfield will “probably be in” but that all final decisions will be made at game time.

Julien will also decide what lines to start the night with. In morning skate, Marc Savard skated with Miro Satan and Milan Lucic, while Vladimir Sobotka centered Michael Ryder and Blake Wheeler.
