BOSTON — Breakup day is always the time we find out which players were ailing the most during the season and after the playoffs.
Today was no different at TD Garden, as general manager Peter Chiarelli said there was a list of about 12 players that could require offseason procedures.
Among that list is Vladimir Sobotka, who suffered a left shoulder injury against Buffalo, and defenseman Matt Hunwick who played most of the season with a right wrist injury he suffered against the New York Rangers way back in October. Both players were scheduled to meet with the doctor today.
Zdeno Chara, who revealed he might need finger surgery way back at midseason, said he’s going to try to work to avoid surgery. He’ll see a hand specialist later this week. And Andrew Ference is scheduled for his hernia surgery next Friday. Ference said that by six weeks after surgery he’ll be able to do some workouts and by 10 weeks he should be ready to go full-tilt.
As for center David Krejci, he has to wear the cast over his right wrist for two more weeks. Then he can begin to rehab and he figures he’ll have a typical offseason with skating starting sometime in July.
