BOSTON – Originally ruled out for this series by Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, Mark Stuart now has hope of returning to face to the Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference semifinal series that continues tonight with Game 2 at TD Garden.
Stuart, who has been out since April 1 with an infection in his finger, took the pregame skate with the team for the first time this morning after spending the last couple days skating with the healthy scratches. (more…)

BOSTON – It’s just a coincidence that the Bruins’ lone power-play goal Saturday in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with Philadelphia came with Marc Savard in the penalty box and his unit on the ice.
Dennis Wideman, Johnny Boychuk, Miroslav Satan and Michael Ryder were more than excited to have Savard, one of the league’s premier playmakers, back in the man-advantage fold after a two-month absence with a concussion – even if it means changing the attacking plan against the Flyers. (more…)

BOSTON — Sometimes when the adrenaline wears off, a player’s second game back from a lengthy injury absence can take more of a toll than the first.
Bruins center Marc Savard, who was the Game 1 hero against Philadelphia Saturday in his first game in almost two months after a severe concussion, knows that fact well. So he’s still taking a cautious approach even though he’d like to help his team as much as he normally would this time of the year.
Sturm
BOSTON — Bruins head coach Claude Julien confirmed this afternoon what everyone suspected and some reported about winger Marco Sturm: he’s out for the season with a knee injury.
About an hour later, the official press release declared Sturm’s season done because of a torn ACL and MCL. He will have surgery in the next four to six weeks and then need six months time to recover. That means he’s highly unlikely to be available to start next season. (more…)
BOSTON — Injured Bruins forward Marco Sturm was spotted making his way from his car to the TD Garden on crutches this morning at around 10:40 a.m. That’s him to the far right of the photo in the white t-shirt.
Sturm didn’t seem to be favoring either leg, as he was using his feet to help move on the crutches. That could just be his weird way of using them. There were no braces or casts visible through his sweat pants. After Sturm was injured on his first shift Saturday, it was guessed that he did something to his right leg.

BOSTON – You score the game-winning goal in overtime in your first game back in a second-round playoff game, and you try to throw away your stick?
Come on, Marc Savard, you’re one of the most meticulous players on the Bruins when it comes to preparation and routine. You use a black marker to ink out any white portions on your skates. You line up three sticks in front of your stall every morning in perfect formation and no one’s allowed to breathe on them.

BOSTON — One of the Bruins’ biggest problems today in their Game 1 victory in their Eastern Conference semifinal series was killing penalties.
The Flyers, who clicked at a 27.6-percent success rate in the first round against New Jersey, cashed in on two of five chances against the Bruins at TD Garden. Boston was a perfect 19-for-19 against Buffalo in the first round and killed off Philly’s first two chances today.
“I think we did a pretty good job at it, it’s just tough luck happens sometimes,” said center David Krejci, who was on the ice for one of Philly’s power-play goals. (more…)
Begin
BOSTON — Winger Marco Sturm’s scoring woes (one goal, 23 games) have been well-documented. So how disappointed must the veteran winger have been after he both left today’s game with a lower-body injury and then watched Steve Begin take his next shift next to Mark Recchi and Patrice Bergeron and score the game’s first goal?
Begin should at least have dedicated the goal to the German speedster, who did not return the rest of the day.
“I didn’t think about it, but if you want I can do it. I’ll go tell him,” Begin said with a smile after Boston’s 5-4 overtime win in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series with Philadelphia at TD Garden.
Time to celebrate
BOSTON — There’s no telling how many injuries to key players the Bruins would have to endure before going in the tank.
Boston lost winger Marco Sturm to an undisclosed lower-body injury on the game’s first shift today at TD Garden. And then they played most of the second and third periods without Vladimir Sobotka. Add to that the limited minutes overtime hero Marc Savard was able to log in his first game back after two months out with a concussion, and it’s amazing the Bruins were able to grab two two-goal leads and then rebound for a victory in the extra session.
