Quick hits from Chiarelli

Chiarelli

BOSTON — Here are some quick-hit notes from Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli’s meeting with the media after the press conference that introduced Cam Neely as the team’s new president.

•Chiarelli made it clear again that he will not be trading the No. 2 pick, unless he decides to trade up. At this time, that’s not an option because the difference between Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin is not big enough to push the Bruins one way or the other. As for offers from No. 2, Chiarelli said many GMs have done their due diligence by calling him.

There was one offer that caused him some pause.

“I was impressed with it. He came hard,” Chiarelli said.

•Chiarelli said he has talked about deals that would move him both up or down from No. 15 — the Bruins’ second first-round pick.

•The Bruins have not “officially” cut ties with any of the unrestricted or restricted free agents. Chiarelli said he has qualified some of his RFAs but would not reveal who they are.

•Goaltender Tim Thomas is doing well after hip surgery.

“He was riding a bike three days after,” Chiarelli said.

The GM expects Thomas to be ready for training camp, so he won’t be making a major move for another veteran backup.

•Carl Soderberg will not be coming to North America for development camp next month. Chiarelli said he needed to get all the details but was informed via email that the prospect will be be staying overseas. I’m sure if you’re surprised by this you’re also surprised to learn the sky is blue.
