Some Jacobs talk

BOSTON — In introducing Cam Neely as the new president of the Boston Bruins, owner Jeremy Jacobs talked about his club’s leadership group with Neely, Charlie Jacobs, Peter Chiarelli, Claude Julien and the coaches.

“Suffice to say that I have total confidence in that group,” said Jacobs, just about a month since his club completed an epic collapse against Philadelphia by blowing a 3-0 series and Game 7 lead.

The younger Jacobs then made a curious statement about what this day means to the organization.

“I feel genuinely happy about how things and events have things have turned for us as an organization,” said Charlie Jacobs.

Bet you never thought you’d hear that from the principal of a team that lost in the second round for a second straight year and became just the fourth team in North American major league sports to blow a 3-0 series lead. I mean, I know you’re excited about Neely’s promotion, but it’s going to take a lot more than a change of title for one of your iconic players/management types to erase the doom and gloom from last month’s disastrous end.
