During a conference call this afternoon to discuss yesterday’s Nathan Horton trade, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli pulled back the veil a bit on his dealings with his team’s unrestricted free agents.

He said that he told center Steve Begin that the club cannot make any commitments to him before July 1 because “we’re looking at other options.” That does not preclude the Bruins from re-signing Begin after the market opens.

Chiarelli also said that he hasn’t told Miroslav Satan anything either way, but confirmed, what reported earlier this week, that he has spoken with the reps for Mark Recchi and Johnny Boychuk.

“I have nothing to report there,” said the GM.

In addition to Horton, the Bruins also acquired Gregory Campbell yesterday. Campbell is a restricted free agent July 1. Chiarelli said he intends to send Campbell a qualifying offer and foresees him as a guy that can compete for a center spot and help out on the wing.
