Just 90 minutes after saying he wanted to leave spots for younger players to compete but might add another veteran forward down the line, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli announced he signed free-agent forward Jeremy Reich.
Reich previously played for the Bruins 2006-08, but was a salary-cap casualty in 2008-09 and after clearing waivers spent the season with the Providence (AHL) farm club. Last season, he missed time with a broken wrist and then played for the New York Islanders’ Bridgeport (AHL) farm team.
If he makes the team, Reich could take some of the fighting pressure off Shawn Thornton, who had to battle in an unthinkable 21 bouts last season.

Yes, a two-way deal. He’ll still need to clear waivers on way down to Prov., but still ticketed for that spot barring anything major.
David,
Deal is one year….2 way contract. 160K AHL and 500K NHL. Matt please correct me if I am wrong.
If Reich gets even a single call-up, the season is doomed.
This is a signing for Providence. They’ll have a bunch of youngsters there this year, and Reich will get the “C” back and step into the mentor role.
I’m happy with it. He will be on the big team if things go the way they did last year. I remember he get ice time to do two things 1) hit anything in not in a Bruins jersey 2) fight someone. We needed more of that last season, so I like this signing. Does anyone know the numbers on this deal?
It is a 2-way deal so I see no problems with it.
I dont see Jeremy making the big team, but could be a call up on occasion to add a little toughness.
