After I went to bed (heaven forbid), Bruins No. 3 goaltender Dany Sabourin packed up and left for a one-year deal with Washington.
Sabourin spent all of last season with the Providence (AHL) farm club (28-27-0, 2.67, .915) and then was one of Boston’s “Black Aces” during the NHL playoffs.
So the Bruins are now really back in the market for a third goaltender. Of course, they have a somewhat tough selling job to a prospective signee if they’re not going to move Tim Thomas. A netminder signing here knows that barring injury or a trade, he’s ticketed for the AHL. So it would be a hard sell to someone like Patrick Lalime, who would be a perfect fit should Thomas get traded.
Yann Danis or Manny Legace could be options should Boston be able to show that Thomas will be moved and the No. 2 job might open up. Other free agents still available are former Bruins John Grahame and Joey MacDonald, and Dan LaCosta , a younger guy that might be willing to settle for a No. 3 job.
