Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, fresh off signing No. 2 overall pick Tyler Seguin to a three-year, entry-level contract, had this to say about his current roster:

“It’s a roster that I’m very happy about now. There are some spots for young players to earn spots.”

When asked if this is the team he’s going to open the season with, Chiarelli explained that your roster is never finalized until opening night and stressed that “things come up” even though nothing is imminent.

•As for the salary cap, Chiarelli said that Marco Sturm’s LTIR will allow him to open with what’s in the mix now and then make a move when forced to be Sturm’s return.

•On the same conference call he spoke about Seguin, Chiarelli said the team has picked a new assistant coach to replace the departed Craig Ramsay. That person will be announced later in the week when terms are finalized.

•Chiarelli said he’s still playing wait-and-see as far as Seguin making the jump to the NHL. If he doesn’t make the club, Seguin will have to report to Plymouth of the OHL. Right now, however, Chiarelli said that an NHL-based Seguin would play on the wing.

•And Chiarelli also said he won’t be doing any buyouts. So you still have Michael Ryder to kick around for the time being.
