I never said the Bruins were worse than the Sens or anyone else in the division, I was analyzing their competition in the northeast, which is looking to get better.
I agree with all the points you made and would add that we should be much better because:
we will have a much lower GAA without Wideman’s nightly “adventure” in the defensive zone
It’s really really hard to be as injured as we were last year
Horton and Seguin should boost what is a year removed from being one of the leauge’s best offenses.
The only possible setbacks aside from injury are:
Ryder plays like a lame duck like last year (if he isn’t in minors, in which case, this is a plus)
Lucic forgot how to be a bear
We don’t have the best offensive defenseman
A headshot to Krejci (already happened to Saravrd and Bergeron 2x)
When you balance the two out, I feel good about our chances, better than I do anyone else in the Northeast.
David, how do you think the Bruins got worse?
They traded Sobotka, a player who is replaceable and even though he played well, didn’t have a huge impact on the Bruins, and they traded Wideman, a kid who clearly regressed this past season.
Meanwhile, they got Seguin and Horton, two players who should have a positive impact on the team (how much of an impact is to be determined, but they definitely should have some sort of a positive impact and make the team better)
I agree that Cory Clouston and the Ottawa Senators are getting better, but the Bruins should take the division.
Minus the Spezza drama, Ottawa seems like an improving team. And the coach is getting a lot of praise…
I think that Buffalo is a solid unit if everything goes a little better than according to plan, but I’m not really impressed with their additions, and I think they got a little worse during the offseason whereas the converse is true of the Sens and I think that will translate into a better Sens team. The biggest question mark about the Sens that I can see that would put Buffalo past them is consistency issues.
