Good point.
Im with you and hope he lights it up.
Cant wait for the season to get started and see how things shake out.
Stain, I am not so sure about that. They were willing to eat Schaffer’s 2.1MIL salary for a whole year in Providence. I just hope he tears it up for the 2 months he’ll be on the proverbial chopping block. Either way, there are going to be some creative accounting come time when Strum gets back.
I did not intend to tout Ryder, I was just stating facts.
If you think the B’s organization is going to bury over $7mil in PVD(Ryder and Sturn), in order to sign another 40yr old, your dreaming.
I was just as frustrated with Ryder last year as most others. I dont think they will bury him in PVD even if we hope they do.
I mean hey, if Ryder steps up this season… good for him. It’ll benefit this year’s team and his own market value, but he won’t be wearing the spoked B come 2011-2012.
Speaking of defensive liabilities, when is PC going to move Hunwick for a 2011 4th-round pick or something? Even if he’s not very offensive, McQuaid is a decent stay-at-home guy who isn’t afraid to push people around, not to mention he’s got size… I think he’ll improve markedly this year. I’d much rather he be with Ferrence so as not to create a size disadvantage for the Bs’ 5-6 pairing.
Like I said, the talet to score 40, but the attitude and work ethic that produces 18 goals. He scored 2 in a garbage game at the end of the season (last game of the year?) so really it was 16 goals for the season when it mattered. He can be on your team.
03-04: 25G
05-06: 30G
06-07: 30G
07-08: 14G
08-09: 27G
09-10: 18G
Again, not worth 4MIL, but proves he can put it in the back of the net…
Ryder is not a proven goal scorer. He scored 18 goals last season. Metropolit had 16. Ryder is inconsistent. He has the talent to score 40, but the effort to score 5
I don’t know about this one… lets face it, he plays with arguably one of the best players in the world, and he only pots 20. Thinking he can net 25 or more with any B’s center is a stretch, and probably wishful thinking. Also, people are getting all up in arms saying FINALLY A PROVEN GOAL SCORER! Well, I hate to break it to you, but Ryder is also a PROVEN goal scorer… he just happens to cost a lot.
I’d only do this if it were 10 years ago…
I would love to see BG in the Black & Gold again, but as others have said already, with the current cap space issues I’ve gotta say no.
Did I just read something that was touting Ryder? He is brutal. Off to PVD. How do they fit Guerin in unless they put Sturm in PVD too?
I don’t know about that Karl. Ryder in Providence is something the media and us fans see as the cap solution. However when is the last time Jacobs allowed a $4mil salary to play in Providence then take on more salary? I don’t know the answer, but my guess is never.
Playing through an off year, Ryder was tied for 3rd with 18 goals. Only Bergy and Sturm had more with 19 and 22 respectively.
IMO Ryder will be in the line up come opening night. I believe he will get every opportunity to prove himself this year, before the organization even thinks about burying him in Providence. Then he will have to clear waivers. I believe….if claimed it will count as $2mil(half salary) against the cap for the remainder of the season.(Matt can you confirm this last sentence if correct?)
recchin ball and billy in boston and ryder in providence. what salary cap issue?
I am very surprised at how this poll is trending.(currently 61%yes, 39%no) I am one of the no’s. While I like Guerin, I dont think he is the answer. Don’t forget we have a big salary cap problem, signing him will only add to this issue. Even if he were to sign for the league minimum, fitting him onto the roster would be tough, unless PC makes a move. Who would he move? Please, nobody say Ryder….even if PC wants to trade him, no team is willing at his current cap hit. Also, moving Savard to make room for Billy would be a huge mistake.
No cap room to bring in Guerin, although I would love to see him as a Bruin again. The roster we see now I think will be the roster we see on opening day unless there is a significant injury or PC can somehow move Ryder. I think it is unlikely at this point that Ryder will be moved unless he can impress some other teams in the preseason or early going of the regular season. When Sturm comes back, something will have to happen to clear up cap space…maybe trading Ryder for little to no return (IE low draft picks) in order to dump salary would be the best move, but it is no gurantee that Sturm will be back 100% from consecutive years with serious knee injuries.
Love the site Matt. Keep up the good work.
I like Guerin’s game but at this point I’d rather the Bruns bring back Miro Satan.
don’t we already have a tough as nails old dude? I think we have hit our quota.
Just to be clear I am a huge Recci fan.
A proven leader… a proven goal scorer… a Cup winner… and a hometown boy… Billy would be the perfect addition while Colborne and Caron continue to develop. Put him on a line with Krejci and Wheeler, and he could put up 20-25 goals or more. I also love his intangibles… he doesn’t make mistakes.
Then again, maybe throwing Colborne or Caron in with Bergeron or Krejci would help with the kids’ development.
Welcome to providence Mr Ryder! There’s a real 20 goal scorer on the market now!
