Bruins’ camp roster is just about set

Savard is expected to show up for camp/By S. Bradley
Anything could happen over the next 16 days before the Bruins officially report for training camp, but right now general manager Peter Chiarelli says that the roster you see now will be the roster you’ll observe then.
“I’m happy where we’re at. I know there’s been some stuff in the summer with Tim [Thomas] and Marc [Savard], and that has blown by, and we’ve got those two players on our roster, we’ve got some young blood coming and that’s where we’re at,” Chiarelli told TheBruinsBlog.net Tuesday afternoon.
Obviously the trade rumors surrounding Boston’s top-line center and former Vezina-winning No. 2 netminder have dominated the Bruins’ news wire since the draft. Both players have publicly expressed differing levels of disappointment about being shopped, with Savard describing his feelings as “hurt” and Thomas skewering the inaccuracy of much of what was reported.
Chiarelli said that he doesn’t expect any problems when both players report for duty.
“I expect them to be professional. I think the feedback that I’ve had has been positive,” said the GM. “A lot of what you read, what you report on, is more illusory than anything. And they read it and they get … they don’t get upset, they get concerned. And I talk to them, and that’s professional sports. They’re going to be in a good frame of mind, as will the rest of the squad.”
As for two key contributors from last season – Steve Begin and Miro Satan – who are still unsigned unrestricted free agents, Chiarelli hasn’t closed the door on a possible return for either player. Chiarelli said he last spoke with Satan’s agent last month and is due to talk with him again soon.
“My guess is, nothing will happen at this time. That’s where it stands right now,” said Chiarelli.
Remember, Satan didn’t sign last year until January.
As for Begin, Chiarelli said he hasn’t “ruled it out.” There are plenty other veterans available and looking for work in this odd free-agent summer, but Chiarelli isn’t actively pursuing anymore older players at this time.
“We’ve got a couple roster spots up for grabs and I’d like to give a chance for a couple young guys,” said Chiarelli.
•Center David Krejci has had the pin removed from his injured hand as scheduled and the procedure was successful. Chiarelli said Krejci is about 95 percent and should be fine for training camp, although the team will “take it slow” with the center “for precautionary reasons.”
•Longtime assistant equipment manager Keith Robinson has been promoted to the head job to replace the departed Mark Dumas. The New Hampshire resident has been with the Bruins for more than 20 years.
Thanks Iced Adam! My bad Allan and David should have mentioned just comparing centers.
Allan/David, that article that SanDog mentions only lists NHL centers. You’re right about the PPG’s, but lets compare apples to apples.

James Murphy.
The way he’s been writing about Savard, you’d think he’s getting a bonus if Savard is traded.
I would think Kovy would be up there too, since he produces about 82 points per season year in and year out. perhaps you may want to check your source
Pretty sure some guy named Ovechkin knocks Savy out of the top 5.
Hey Matt, Please don’t answer James Murphy on twitter you’re better than that and a better writer by far.
He’s pissed cause Jack Edwards put the hammer down about the Savard rumors with stats to back it up!

Nuff said on that subject!
I agree with Jimmy. There is an upside to Ryder and the organization will give him every opportunity to prove himself before manking any kind of move. Ryder has to know, if he doesnt produce, he is on the chopping block. If that, plus playing for a new contract this year doenst motivate him, nothing will.
PC will have to get creative in order to manage the cap throughout the whole season. One of PC selling points for getting this job is that he is a cap master. Lets see if he is correct, he certainly has his work cut out for himself.
Matt, What’s the story behind the Mark Dumas vacancy?
I’d love to know where all of the “Savard is being actively shopped” rumors came from this summer. The whole idea of letting Savard go makes no sense to me. Still, I’d like to hear the Bruins management come right out and say that they are not shopping Savvy. That’s the problem with rumors, if the team doesn’t come out and deny it then everyone assumes its true and with no specific information we’re left to wonder why they would even consider trading the only guy that could make the powerplay work last year. I’m happy with the roster as it is right now. obviously they’ll need to make a move when Sturm is healthy but by then there may be a few teams looking for players that the Bruins are more willing to part with.
i know everyone is fed up with michael rydeer and want him to spend his last year in the nhlers version of prison the ahl. yet, we will all be pleasantly suprised when he looks like the ryder of 2 years ago when he had his 27 goals. his salary would be nice to save this year, but as with savard his talent is too high to just remove his goal scoring from a team that seems destine to compete for the top spot in the east. remeber this is his last year with the bruins unless they can sign him to under 2 mil a year, where his value truly sits.
for as many games as the b’s take to the shoot out, sign satan. i don’t remember them losing one after chia signed him last year. park ryder and grab satan and guerin.
When the team publishes it, I will do the same. Right now the only roster is the messed up one on their Web site.
I like this….you have a story about the camp roster without actually posting the camp roster. duhhhhhhh!
I really don’t see either Begin or Satan coming back in Boston this season unless injury or other circumstances arise. I like what Begin brings on the PK, but unless Campbell is a disappointment, there just won’t be the room for these two vets salary wise. The B’s have young talent like PC said, and those guys could certainly step up and help.
But with Whitfield injured and likely out for the season, PC needs to look at getting a veteran presence other than Reich in Providence. Would Begin play in the AHL at this point in his career, probably not, but the options are getting slim as we move closer to mid-September.
