Video: Seguin shows flashes in his debut

Seguin/By S. Bradley
BOSTON — Let the record show that Tyler Seguin did not set the TD Garden on fire in his debut in his new home arena while skating in Boston’s 5-2 rookie game victory over the New York Islanders.
However, you saw enough of the speedster’s wheels, hands and instincts to know that there are better days ahead for the No. 2 overall draft pick.
Seguin notched two assists, including one on a power-play goal by Jordan Caron that eluded at least three penalty killers, in the triumph. He finished the night with three shots on net and produced more positive than negative results.
“Tonight what I saw from Tyler was what we saw from him for the most part when we scouted him. He was a little tentative but it’s all relative with him because he’s such a highly skilled player,” said Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli. “You saw some of the passes he made, you saw some of the little plays that he made, the mature plays that he made moving up the ice with the puck. What you saw tonight, you’re going to see a lot more of what you saw tonight but on a more consistent basis. He can play the half-wall on the power play. I think he can probably play down low too. He can bring the puck up on the power play. I think you saw toward the latter part of the game, he was carrying the puck more.
“He’s a versatile offensive player. He’s going to have to be responsible in his own end. I think you saw a couple gaffes here and there. But it’s his first game, so you’ve got to cut him some slack.”
Here’s what Seguin had to say after his Garden debut:
Future is Bright without a doubt.
Impressed with the big three(seguin,caron,colborne).
Also, really liked Sauve! Something special bruin here guys.
I was impressed with the chemistry amongst the rookies. Like TS said, they’re not a year-long time and they’ve only been playing together a few weeks. It was good to see the bruisers sticking up for the skills players and TS setting up his teammates instead of trying to impress the crowd by putting up some goals.
Seriously ^^^^^??
Anyways, Seguin looked super tentative at first. He looks like a great passer. I hope he develops more of a shoot first mentality.
word. I try to strike a balance between being helpful in aims of clarity and order and the truly anal editor instincts of suggesting fixes for things like “31saves” -> “31 saves.” I figure you do this without a real editor/proofreader and I can give back to a friend who gives so much in the way of news. I hope I don’t cross the line into annoying too often. as always, feel free to delete anything I post (this included) or straight ignore me. I love this site and I love that each day is bringing more of the feeling of hockey season. go Bruins!
Watched the streaming feed of tonight’s game. I think some may have expected Seguin to put up crazy points, but his performance still was impressive though he wasn’t burying them left and right. Very impressed with Caron, should be a great game tomorrow!
Thanks. And thanks for being the unofficial editor of TheBruinsBlog.net
thanks for yet another day of great Bruins coverage!
