BOSTON — After reporting to TD Garden for the off-ice testing portion of the first day of Bruins training camp, veteran alternate captain Patrice Bergeron addressed the state of his contract negotiations and whether he thought they could continue once the season starts.
Bergeron is in the last year of his multi-year deal and is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
“I’ve never really thought about it. For now, I’m thinking about hockey,” said Bergeron. “There hasn’t been talk in the past couple weeks, so for now I’m just thinking about hockey. If we do come down to having some conversations during the year, and I feel that it’s not distracting me, I’ll keep going. But if I feel like it does, I’ll tell Peter that I want to stay in Boston but I’d like to do it later.”
Bergeron re-iterated his desire to stay in Boston and also said that right now he would be willing to wait until after the season if that’s how things play out over the next several months.
