Horton
It’s time to go from excited to ecstatic.
The Bruins opened their exhibition schedule tonight with a 4-2 win at Montreal, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead and spoiled the start of Carey Price’s first season as the Canadiens’ No. 1 netminder.
Nathan Horton scored on his first shot, Patrice Bergeron added two goals and Johnny Boychuk also lit the lamp, while Tuukka Rask made 36 saves. To say that expectations for the Bruins are now higher would be an understatement. The Bruins will continue the preseason Thursday night in Rochester, N.Y., against Florida.

Segzy = Seguin… I picked up the nickname from comments in this blog, actually. Sorry for the mixup.

Who is Segzy?
And if Seguin wasn’t, “Seguin, the No. 2 overall pick”, I’d say he’s still within the mix with the likes of Caron and Sauve in camp. Nothing more. Sure he’s fast and has good hands. But Sauve and Caron play a bigger game that is more beneficial to the NHL.
The kids looked good… albeit a little shaky at times, but two assists for Bartkowski, one for Spooner, and one for Segzy are all good signs. Playing in his first NHL game in front of a packed Bell Centre was definitely a little unnerving at first for Seguin (that place is an animal house… being there is like being in a rampant zoo with 20,000 animals), but I’m not gonna write him off as not being ready for the big leagues. He has to learn the big boys’ game sooner or later… and the sooner he starts, the quicker he’ll be able to translate his skills to the NHL level. He’s a smart kid, he’ll be okay. Here’s some food for thought as to what Segzy could “translate” over time… I urge all of you to watch this.

Thanks Digger
–The best part of this is Boychuk hitting the back of the net. He needs to continue to elevate his game this season.
–Bergeron potting two is comforting, too. Although just preseason, maybe No. 37′s role could be leaning more towards offense — akin to his earlier years?
–Horton’s goal was a knuckle-ball, but it doesn’t matter. That’s gotta help this kid’s confidence even more, and hopefully carry on throughout this season.
–Rask looking like midseason form is going to force a healthy competition for that No. 1 role. And worst case scenario, it’s one helluva tandem.
Ecstatic? Yes, indeed.
It’s only pre-season but no, the b’s didn’t look that good. Add a strong Mtl goalie and the B’s could of easily lost that game. Tuukka looked good.
Dbruins- the game was streamed on Justintv last night I’m sure you can find it on there tonight.
D was atrocious … most concerning thing was that the worst looking pair was Hunwick/Seidenberg. Touch wood and hope that Z doesn’t get injured for an extended period of time, he’ll need to log 50 minutes a night with a supporting cast like that.
Transition game was non-existent, no surprise but hopefully PC pulls the trigger on an upgrade at some point.
Caron looked really good, Spooner has some good wheels. Bergeron and Rask were absolutely stellar. Horton got mean on a shift about half way through the 3rd and absolutely destroyed a couple Habs … good to see. Seguin might not be ready quite yet, hopefully he sees lots of action in the pre-season. If he catches up, great, if not another year in Jr isn’t going to hurt him.
The Bs definitely missed Chara in their own end. The physicality from the D was pretty low… Though the forwards were plenty aggressive in their own end. Only thing that worried me is that Hunwick seemed to singlehandedly give Montreal half of its chances.
I agree with you Matt. Plenty to be excited about between Tuuk and the offense. I’m praying that Savvy won’t be sidelined for too long. He’ll need time to return to form in order to be a factor on this team.
any way to watch the game vs Florida tonight

Matt I wouldn’t get to excited, they won but montreal outshot them 3 to 1 and it seemed as though they were very sloppy in the defensive zone. Hopefully we wont have to lean on tukka to win again this year.
