P-Bruins to start year with Dalton, Hutchinson in net

The Providence Bruins, who open their regular season Friday at home against Springfield, today announced that goaltender Adam Courchaine has been assigned to Reading of the East Coast Hockey League.

That means that while Nolan Schaefer stays in Prague as Boston’s third-string goaltender, Matt Dalton and Michael Hutchinson will begin this season as the P-Bruins’ two goaltenders. Providence also plays Saturday night at Springfield.

Hutchinson is eligible to return to his junior team London of the OHL and is in his first pro season. Dalton appeared in six games with Providence last season, but spent most of his year with Reading. For the Royals, he skated in 46 games and compiled a 22-20-4 record before leading the team to the conference finals.

Another roster move will have to be made once Schaefer is assigned to Providence, barring any Boston injuries, upon return from Europe.

The Courchaine move, combined with Boston assigning defenseman Matt Bartkowski to Providence, leaves the P-Bruins with 25 players in camp.
