WILMINGTON, Mass. — Bruins captain Zdeno Chara returned from Prague with more than just the two points in the standings that his team earned Sunday.
He also came back with a new contract that gives him the piece of mind to know he’ll pretty much be with the Bruins for the remainder of his career. Although he no longer has to deal with questions about his immediate future, Chara said today after practice at Ristuccia Arena that life on the ice is the same as it was before the deal was completed.
“It really didn’t change that much,” said Chara. “I felt I had to be really focused on my game and some things you can’t control and some things, obviously, you can. But obviously I was glad it was done. But at the same time it wasn’t affecting me. I wasn’t losing some sleep or stuff like that. I really felt that it was done really in the proper way. We were so close for a couple weeks. I really knew it would get done eventually. I always felt my preparation would never change with or without a contract.”
