Former NESN sideline reporter, “Rubber Biscuit” baker and friend of The Bruin Blog Rob Simpson has a new half-hour special entitled “Emerald Ice” premiering on Comcast Sportsnet next Tuesday, Oct. 19.

There will be a premier party at McGreevy’s on Boylston Street in Boston starting at 7 p.m., with the show aired during the festivities at 8 p.m. The show re-airs at midnight.

“Emerald Ice” is a feature that documents the following:

1. The Bruins’ visit to Belfast against the UK Elite League Select team a couple weeks ago.

2. The closing of the only rink in Republic of Ireland. Kids love the game but have nowhere to skate (unless they go to Northern Ireland).

3. Catholic kids and protestant kids practicing and playing together, which is unheard of otherwise in sports/life — more so now, with Irish kids having to head to N. Ireland to get ice time. It’s peace through pucks.

4. A quick look at Belfast Giants of Elite League. Locals playing with that team are Mike Hoffman from Scituate, Mass., and Josh Prudden from Andover, Mass., in addition to former UNH Wildcats Colin and Brett Hemingway.

Any soiree involving Simpson is usually a grand old time. Plus he promises some Bruins alumni and members of the Dropkick Murphys will drop by. So if you’re free Tuesday, go and check it out.
