Savard/By S. Bradley

That fight among forwards I wrote about the other night in relation to the competition to stay in the lineup when Marc Savard returns seems to be closer to an end than we knew.

Tonight, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli has confirmed to numerous outlets that Savard recently passed his exertion test and began skating on his own — including early this morning.

While the club is obviously going to take its time with Savard to avoid another reoccurrence of post-concussion syndrome, the star center is seemingly closer to a return today than he was even 10 days ago.

The Bruins season, and the battle between forwards for playing time, continues Tuesday night in Washington against the Capitals.
