BOSTON — The last time Milan Lucic and Mike Komisarek were on the ice at the same time, Komisarek was sent off the ice after receiving a cross-checking major penalty and a game misconduct in the third period of Game 4 of the ’09 Eastern Conference quarterfinal series between Boston and Montreal.
That incident was just another chapter in the violent tale of Lucic and Komisarek (see videos below), who were seemingly born to go at one another like cats and dogs. Last season, however, the rivals weren’t able to tangle again due to various injuries to both men. Six Bruins-Maple Leafs games came and went without one contest featuring both players in uniform.
“It was kind of odd not to play against him with the rivalry created kind of between me and him and with us and Montreal in past years when he was there,” said Lucic about Komisarek, who left Montreal for Toronto before last season as a free agent. “It was a little bit different. Obviously it was unfortunate for the both of us that we weren’t able to play full seasons. But here we are back and healthy and ready to go.”
So the next act in the Lucic-Komisarek saga begins 7 p.m. tonight at TD Garden. While Komisarek did not address the media after his team’s skate, Lucic spoke on the matter and didn’t tip his hand about whether there’s any carryover from ’09 until now.
“I don’t know, we’ll see. We’ve got to see what will happen out there,” said Lucic. “We’re off to a good start; they’re off to a good start. It’s a big game for both teams, a divisional game.”
