Savard
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli today released the following statement about star center Marc Savard:
“Today Marc passed the tests administered by Dr. Micky Collins from the Sports Medicine department at UPMC, and is now cleared for contact. Marc will rejoin the team tomorrow for morning skate in Florida. There is no timetable at this time for Marc to start playing games.”
If that’s not a shot across the bow of some guys — as in Michael Ryder, Matt Hunwick — I don’t know what is. Now there’s really only one more hurdle for Savard to clear, and that’s a practice, or a tretch of practices, with contact and no symptoms.
Practice time in the weeks ahead could continue to be tight with Boston playing pretty much every other day. And the Bruins are obviously going to take their time to make sure they don’t rush Savard back after what transpired since last spring. But now his return to the lineup is even more of a reality, as is the need for Chiarelli to make a move or two to clear the space on the Bruins’ cap.

Greg – I would assume McQuaid comes in, as he’s still counting on the NHL roster. Not much room for error/injury though.
They are currently 1,759,795 under the cap with the two LTIR exemptions.
Daniel Paille $1,075,000
Hunwick $1,450,000
So that actually gets it done as they need $4,007,143 for Savard.
But big problem, how do they play with only 5 defensmen?
I am hoping they trade Ryder and Hunwick. I am hoping they keep Caron up. I am also hoping Wheeler can keep up is level of play at the wing. It seems like some of his increase in output is due to the move to center. All of this and I would be THANKFUL!!!!
Wheeler has reacted well to the pressure to play better. To me, Ryder has wilted. People should not be fooled by the goal and point totals. Hopefully other GMs are too. Sending Hunwick and Paille to Providence is pretty obvious in my mind. I am not sure Paille and Hunwick get us there, so Ryder should have his bags ready
