Savard set for afternoon pow wow

Savard

BOSTON — That he was on the ice with just four other of his teammates this morning for an optional skate at TD Garden doesn’t mean that Marc Savard won’t make his season debut tonight against Tampa Bay.

It just means he wanted to get his work in just in case.

“I’m kind of leaving it in their hands. I feel ready, but it’s still up to them,” said Savard, who is scheduled to meet with general manager Peter Chiarelli, head coach Claude Julien and the medical staff this afternoon.

It’s obvious what Julien’s opinion in that meeting is going to be.

“I think we’ve gotten as much as we can out of him in practices and stuff like that,” said the coach. “And the next stage for him to, I think, get better is to start playing some games. It doesn’t mean that we can’t keep practicing him. He’s at that stage there where he’s pretty close to reaching his max with conditioning and everything else. Now I’ve got to wait and see if there’s any people saying that we should wait a little longer.”

If Savard, out since the start of training camp because of post-concussion syndrome, gets the go-ahead, Julien won’t have any problem plugging in his star center into the lineup. When asked if he has two sets of lineups he responded “I’ve had that for a month.”
