Stuart won't be hitting anyone for a while/By S. Bradley
The bad breaks just keep on coming for Bruins defenseman Mark Stuart.
The veteran once known as the team’s iron man is injured again, this time with a hand injury that will keep him out four to six weeks. Here’s the official statement from the Bruins:
“Mark sustained a fracture to the fourth metacarpal of his right hand (ring finger) and dislocated his fourth metacarpal phlangeal joint. He was evaluated by Dr. Matt Leibman at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.”
The Bruins did not provide any other details of the injury. We know, at least, that it occurred in the first period Tuesday night.
Stuart had a streak of 214 consecutive games played going until a broken sternum knocked him out of the lineup early last season. That injury, and a later finger injury and infection, limited him to just 56 games played plus four postseason games.
This season, he was healthy for the first 26 games. But right now, it doesn’t look like Stuart’s gamble to re-sign with Boston on a one-year deal is paying off.

not hating, but i was relieved it was stewie and not another blueliner. his big games have been few and far between.
tru, i think claude is trying to pair the lefties (chara, af & sides) w/ the righties (mcq, boychuk, kampfer).
Wow, lots of Stuart hate here
I wouldn’t. I saw him as the weak link on defense before he was hurt. now is a good opportunity to upgrade. I actually think Kampfer has the potential to be an upgrade. I just wish they’d go with Chara/Ference, McQuaid/Seidenberg and Boychuk/Kampfer. the second and third pairings we are likely to get tonight look way too weak to me. Kampfer/Seidenberg is too fancy and the reported third pairing is sketchy as fuck. no matter the front line, McQuaid/Ference/Rask as the defense makes me very nervous.
Tom, Could not agree with you less.
LTIR does not mean more salary cap. It allows the team to temporarily exceed the salary cap by the contract. At the end of the year, the salary cap is the salary cap. The Bruins are currently running higher then the salary cap every day and they will have to make that up before the end of the year.
Think of it as deficit spending, however, unlike the government, they have to balance the budget by year end.
Stuarts salary is 1.675 million. Kampfer is 825K. I would much rather have our number 3 defenseman Thank You.
LTIR=More salary cap. He is useless anyway, just a big body with limited skills.
at least there’s no surgery involved so no chance for infection. good opportunity for kampfer.
This sucks. He was playing very, very well.
Time to see some organizational depth like last season.
This should expedite a trade for another good defenseman
