Final score: Bruins 4, Tampa Bay 3

Recchi/By S. Bradley

The call might’ve been borderline, but the goal was sniper-worthy by Mark Recchi.

And so the Bruins took advantage of an iffy boarding call on Steven Stamkos to win a road game against Tampa Bay, 4-3, tonight on Mark Recchi’s seventh goal of the season and 570th of his career with just 19.7 seconds left in regulation.

Recchi’s goal was his first after an eight-game drought.

Replays showed that Stamkos hit Gregory Campbell in pursuit of the puck in the Tampa Bay end from the side. But the way Campbell hit the end wall sold the penalty to the referees, who sent Stamkos to the box. The Bruins’ power play then cashed in for the second time in six tries on the evening.

Here’s a glance at the rest of the box score:

•Rookie Steven Kampfer netted his first goal of his NHL career.

•Winger Brad Marchand was back after a three-game absence with “general soreness.” He scored his fifth goal of the season and also drew two minor penalties by the Lightning.

•Tim Thomas was brilliant as usual in net with 31 saves in the second of a back-to-back scenario against the two Florida teams. It was just the second time Thomas played both halves of a back-to-back. He is now 4-0-0 in those games.

•Ryan Malone fired eight of those shots, but did not score for the Lightning.
