BOSTON — From Bobby Orr to Ray Bourque to Zdeno Chara, with Glen Wesley crashing the great defensemen party.
Chara is now the fourth Bruins defenseman, in addition to the aforementioned players, in franchise history to record a hat trick, as he scored three goals in Boston’s 7-0 rout of Carolina today at TD Garden.
It was Chara’s first career hat trick after eight career two-goal contests in his career.
Here’s his third goal, complete with his hat’s off salute to the crowd:
Here’s a look at the rest of the box score:
•Tim Thomas stopped 31 shots for his league-leading seventh shutout of the season, which is the most blankings by a Bruins goaltender since Byron Dafoe in 1998-99 (10).
•All but five Bruins skaters registered at least one point. In addition to Chara’s hat trick three players (Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci and Adam McQuaid) recorded two-point games.
•The Bruins’ penalty kill was a perfect 5-for-5. They have now killed 19 of their last 22 shorthanded situations.
