You vote: Bruin of the Week
Third place in the conference is a pretty solid place to be as the regular season’s fourth month nears its close.
And that’s just where the Bruins find themselves in the Eastern Conference after a 3-1-0 week, which featured numerous outstanding individual performances.
Picking the Bruin of the Week is going to be a tough task for readers of this blog.
You start with goaltender Tim Thomas, who stopped 106 of 110 shots (.964 save percentage) in three victories, including a shutout of Carolina. In the second win over the Hurricanes, he had to make 43 saves on 45 shots, including 19 of 19 in a wild second period.
Thomas’ shutout was made easier by strong defensive play in front of him and plenty of offensive support, led by Zdeno Chara, who registered his first NHL shutout in that game. For the week, Chara posted 3-1-4 offensive totals and a plus-5 rating. He fired 15 shots on net and prevented Carolina star Eric Staal from registering a single even-strength point in two games.
Milan Lucic was having a tough time getting going after his return from a brief bout with injury, but he broke out in a big way this week. The bulky winger scored three goals, including two in the win at Colorado, and added an assist. He posted an even rating and fired six shots on goal.
Lucic’s two-goal game was overshadowed by a couple three-point contests, plus Brad Marchand’s four-point outing against the Avalanche. Marchand’s two-goal, two-assist game capped a great week, during which he posted 3-2-5 totals with a plus-6 rating.
And Patrice Bergeron’s breakout season continued to sizzle against the Avs and all week. The veteran center finished with 2-3-5 totals and a plus-5 rating. He also won 46 of 72 faceoffs (63.9 percent success rate).
So I ask you:
Who should be the Bruin of the Week?
- Brad Marchand (53%, 77 Votes)
- Patrice Bergeron (21%, 30 Votes)
- Zdeno Chara (12%, 18 Votes)
- Tim Thomas (12%, 17 Votes)
- Milan Lucic (2%, 3 Votes)
Total Voters: 145

PCL: Agreed. I get very nervous when marchand does too much stick handling. I think I expect too much from him, maybe i think he is supposed to play like the Krejci from the end of last year, and then I remember he is still a rookie. but you can tell he is learning. He is getting better, and when he hits stride…. watch out lord Stanley.
I agree with Vinny too, so I went with Marchand.
Regarding Timmy, did anyone else notice that he was handling the puck a lot more towards the end of the Avs game, and doing quite a good job at that. I usually cringe when he does so, for good reason, but he showed a lot more confidence and skill with getting it out of the zone on Saturday. If that continues, it will give this team a whole new level of defensive proficiency, which is already pretty high to begin with.
I gotta go against the popular Marchant vote and go with the man with a bunch of new hats! Not every day does a dman register a hat trick, and the celebration was pretty cool too. I guess that’s the thing to vote for.
good call, vinny.
I just naturally assume this poll is always for Second Place Bruin of the Week, because Tim Thomas deserves Bruin of the Week, every week. My vote’s for Marchand.

I think this is a week where it is hard to choose. Marchand has definitely stepped up to make things happen on any line he plays on and Thomas has been amazing. Bergeron, Marchand and Recchi seem to have good chemistry and make a strong line.
