Savard/By S. Bradley
Appearing on the Toucher & Rich radio show on 98.5 The Sports Hub, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli offered an update on injured center Marc Savard.
While explaining that he allowed Savard to leave early to return to his Ontario home for the All-Star break, the GM said “he’s feeling better.”
Chiarelli then tackled the topic of filling in for Savard while the veteran is out with his second concussion in 10 months. Chiarelli mentioned playing Tyler Seguin at center (where he played Monday) or moving Gregory Campbell up the depth chart if necessary.
For the short term, there could also be a call-up from the Providence (AHL) farm club. When asked specifically about Joe Colborne and Zach Hamill, Chiarelli said: “Hamill is more ready than Joe.”
Chiarelli admitted that if Savard’s absence is more of the long-term variety “we’ll have to look for a more established NHL player.” The trade deadline is Feb. 28.

JohnnyBruin, That sounds good to me Ryder to a team that needs some offense include a 2nd rounder if you need too (Chiarelli has two 2nd rounders Wild’s for the Kobasew trade) then bring in Fisher from Ottawa.
I think that is something that is interesting about this team. There are only a handful of guys that I would consider untouchable as far as a trade. Something else to consider that you have guys who are way underachieving right now, and guys who way over achieving compared to their history. This also makes trading guys tricky. (As I write this Marchand scores his 13th goal of the season, now ranked 4th on the team in goals. Your a liar if you said you saw that coming.)
bring back Caron, but i would also like to see Pille go,he is useless
I would not bet the future that the rest of this roster is cup-worthy. I would try to make a sound deal without dealing first rounders or good prospects (Coburne, Caron, Arniel, Sauve, Spooner, etc.)
I would do ANY deal to get rid of Ryder and I would put Wheeler in that deal, although Wheeler has been pretty decent lately
completely agree with karl.. why should we trade away a legitimate prospect to get another guy that on paper is supposed to get us to the stanley cup.. when i think we all know that the bruins are too wishy washy this year to compete.. a deep run yes, champions.. not this year and maybe not ever if we stay with this same monotonous system that they play
savvy’s absence sounds short term. would like to see chia call up someone from providence.
If the team gets a timetable on savy and it’s not too long I wouldn’t mind seeing Caron come up again. I liked his play, penalty killing etc. Only issue is the season is well underway and might be a little more challenging. Just a thought.
Wouldn’t mind seeing Carrie Underwood at a few Bs games… But I would be hesitant to trade one of our guys within the division, in case he comes back to bite us (this fear really only applies to Mark Stuart). Though maybe Ottawa would do essentially a salary swap and take on Ryder for the rest of the year if we gave them our first rounder and a current prospect like Colborne. Mike Fisher is the man, but I guess it’ll all depend on Savard’s health and whetheror not Chia will move Complacent Krejci before the deadline.

Think less skill, more grit, because that’s more along the lines of what Chia would be willing to pay for. Plus, a good checker is never a bad thing.
Fisher anyone?
