Hamill

BOSTON — The Bruins put out the press release about Zach Hamill’s recall from the Providence (AHL) farm club after tonight’s game.

So it was assumed that the center was summoned because Boston was anticipating a suspension for Daniel Paille after his Rule 48-violating hit on Raymond Sawada.

But in his postgame media briefing head coach Claude Julien said that the decision to bring up Hamill was made in the afternoon before the Bruins even played the Dallas Stars at TD Garden.

You read it here earlier this week that Hamill, Boston’s first-round pick in ’07, has been playing much better the last month-plus. Now he’ll get a chance to show his stuff in the NHL. Paille’s potential suspension will open up a spot in the lineup for Providence’s second-leading scorer (28 points). Hamill skated in one NHL game for Boston last season.

They’d deny it now, but there were obvious plans to take someone else out of the Bruins lineup before the Paille situation occurred. And my best guess would be that rookie Tyler Seguin was headed for the press box, and still could be if he’s outplayed by Hamill.
