Chiarelli on T&R: Savard ‘more than likely’ head to LTIR

Chiarelli
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli had a lot to say during his weekly radio hit with Toucher & Rich on 98.5 The Sports Hub today.
Chiarelli said that center Marc Savard will meet with doctors today but there might not be any major revelations about Savard’s future for a couple days. Chiarelli plans to meet with Savard and his agent Larry Kelly over the weekend.
When asked about LTIR for the concussed center, Chiarelli conceded that Savard will “more than likely” wind up going on that list.
•As for Daniel Paille, Chiarelli said there’s a hearing with the league this morning to determine supplemental punishment, if there is any, for the hit last night that earned the forward a game misconduct.
•And as for reports that the Bruins will only look in-house to replace Savard going forward, Chiarelli said that for right now the Bruins are going to look at Zach Hamill. But going forward, he’ll look to replace Savard best he can — either through another player in the organization or trade.
Chiarelli said that there aren’t many centers available right now, but he sees that position as a need to fill and he is also looking to add a defenseman.
I find it kind of funny how at the beginning of the season we were talking about our amazing depth at center, and now there’s talk about trading to get one.
Kvartalnov had 30 goals and 72 points his first year with the Bruins so if were lucky enough Hamill plays like that then the Bs are good.
The next player from Providence that the Bruins should promote is Sauve he is the best pure goal scorer on the team no one is even close too his speed or shot in full stride.
I hope they trade Wheeler and his 2.2 million. Good bye. We can find someone to do what he does for about 500k (Caron)
I could tolerate Karl’s lines. So when Paille comes back and Hammil has played well, the thought here is that Paille plays over Seguin? That is insane to me
Cohen and Coburne and Caron are not going to push this team over the line for the cup (I seriously doubt Cohen or Coburne is ready for the NHL). They either get serious and make a real acquisition or don’t plan on playing in June
Colbourne may have more potential, but he isn’t ready for the show. The Bruins want to season him. There’s a reason no good bruins blog talks about calling him up right now.
I personally think that we could use a good gritty forward more than a scoring forward when one considers their in-season price of of acquiring a scorer. After Chara we have a good set of role-playing defenseman without any real standouts and I hope that’s where Chiarelli trys to make something happen. I do feel that Matt’s sentiments on an in-season addition of a (relatively) defensively sound puck-mover are slim to nill, at least at a reasonable price.
ya Cohen ahead of Stuart and Bartkowski on the D depth chart…brilliant
Like the idea of giving some of the younger guys a shot now while there’s still time before the trade deadline. No reason not to, as teams rarely make moves until the final days. To exorcise those ghosts, I also think the more turnover we have from last year’s playoff team, the better. Let’s see what we have with those young guys before jumping the gun.
Seems that the biggest decision is whether the Bs will make a run with Seguin as the 3rd line center, if Wheeler will play that role, or if they need to look outside the organization. I like Wheeler at center. He seems to have a bit more giddyup at that position, and Seguin on wing isn’t such a bad idea either.
Either way, this all makes for interesting times as a fan. This team is fun to follow. Keep up the great coverage!
Cohen was hurt for a while and still working off the rust. Who would Cohen replace? The Bruins’ 6 D are playing so well Stuart can’t even get in there.

I s there a reason why we haven’t seen Cohen or Colbourne in the show yet? Cohen has a few games under his belt with the Av’s but we have yet to see him called up. I know they aren’t centers but…still would be nice to see a bigger body with some upside.
If Hamill replaces anyone – it’ll be Seguin. Paille suspended and Caron in Providence. They’ll NEED Wheeler on the PK. Hamill is about the farthest thing from Marchand – Think we’d be lucky to get some Dmitri Kvartolnov out of him – and that’s probably too much a reach.
This is Hammil’s shot. He can either be Marchand and seize the moment or he can blow it. I for one hope he makes Wheeler expendable.
