BOSTON — There were so many penalty minutes in this one that more than 30 minutes after game time the statisticians were still trying to total them up.
When the dust and the equipment on the ice finally settled, the Bruins had their first win over hated Montreal in four tries this season.
Nathan Horton earned First Star honors with five points (one goal), and Milan Lucic and Michael Ryder scored two goals apiece in Boston’s 8-6 win.
Here’s a glance at the box score:
•It was a night that could damage Tim Thomas’ shot at the single-season save percentage record, but he still made some key saves among his 27 and earned his first fighting major of his NHL career.
•Lucic, Horton and David Krejci were all plus-5 on the night. Adam McQuaid was a plus-4.
•Five different Bruins players recorded multi-point nights.
•The line of Scott Gomez, Andrei Kostitsyn and Lars Eller each posted a minus-4 rating.

Love the new Adam McQuaid who gets involved in the offense. What’s this, two “goals” in three games now? It’s great to see him make a nicely timed move into the high slot when the wingers were packed down by the net — not much fear of a 2-on-1 if he gets caught low in that situation.
@MKC
Do you even like the Bruins? All you do is complain on this blog?.
tom – I think he had a pretty good game.
That pass to Ryder was good and when he dragged around the sliding defensman I actually got up from my seat to see what he would do.
I hope he scores a hat trick next game. We need a bigger chip to trade.
bs fan – I still say sit Ryder. He is motivated against his old team and you want to give him a pass? Not happening here. I can not wait until his salary is off our books and he no longer shows the younger players how to coast.
Matt…. Was Horton using a new stick??????
Hamill didn’t do anything other than that one assist. He is weak on the puck and doesn’t have the speed to make up for his mistakes.
don van massengill stole ryder’s hat trick. looks like he might have some chemistry there with zach hamill.
Where’s that PK% after last night? :-O
Glad they got the W, but WTH was going on in their own end last night?!?
Beyond that, that’s two instant classic games in a weeks time! ‘Tis good to be B’s fan right now.
So one good game and he is now an all star?
where is everyone saying sit ryder
