The Bruins will host Detroit tonight at TD Garden, and that might give Boston goaltender Tim Thomas a chance to match-up against Red Wings second-year sensation Jimmy Howard.
It’s unlikely, however, that we’ll see another goaltender fight tonight or for years to come. Thomas’ “bout” with Montreal’s Carey Price Wednesday was more farce than fight, and left Howard unimpressed, according to the Detroit News.
“I saw a little bit of it,” Howard was quoted in The News. “It wasn’t much, more of just ring-around-the-rosy, I think. Timmy was laughing the whole time.”
As for throwing down with Thomas or any other opposing netminder, Howard sounded like a pacifist.
“I don’t want to fight,” he said. “The little scrums I don’t mind, but I don’t feel like dropping gloves anytime soon, unless I really have to. I don’t see it in my future anytime soon. You never know, though, in the playoffs (maybe).”
So if Thomas, or Tuukka Rask for that matter, wants to provide the Bruins with the ultimate spark, it’s unlikely there will be a willing combatant at the opposite end of the rink against Detroit.
