‘Worst Oiler team ever’ could be great for Bruins to trade with
Best of all, Gilbert might be had at a bargain considering the Oilers’ position as rebuilders. They’d probably only want a pick or prospect. Boston could probably get away with keeping their first-rounders and possibly at least one of their second-rounders. Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli and his Edmonton counterpart Steve Tambellini were involved in many conversations leading up to last June’s draft when they held the second and first pick overall, respectively. They didn’t get a deal done, but maybe eight months later they can swing something that’ll help the Oilers’ future and Boston’s present.

Gilbert’s contract is disgusting. I’m not a fan of going after Liles because of the money… but this would be far worse.
Please no trades for Oilers players. You don’t want players who are use to losing (past 2+ years). The only guy maybe I would want is Smid but even that’s a maybe. Penner is similar to Horton this year, gets hot then goes invisible on the scoresheet, no thanks.
Another competitor gets stronger and the Bruins braintrust just idly stands by and does nothing. Bottom line here is that we cannot win consistently playing 4 rookies and another 2nd year player. Three of those are on D. Seguin and Marchand scored goals against Detroit and then turned around and gave them back with poor play in their own zone. Chiarelli, go out and get something done.
Bruins fans continue to beat this “Horton doesn’t try” drum over and over despite the fact the effort is there. There’s a difference between lack of effort and lack of scoring.
I personally don’t think the options that are out there are good enough to give the Bruins a legitimate chance at the cup this year. I would rather sit on the picks for what is supposed to be a pretty solid draft and get some young talent to develop than getting any of the average wingers and dmen out there.
Meh … that term and $ is far too big a risk to gamble on Gilbert unless they eat Ference’s contract. Even then we’re out a cagey veteran for the playoffs. Big fat no thanks from me.
For the love of everything Holy, please no Penner or Hemsky.
I knew very little of Gilbert before this read, but i have to say that you completely convinced me on the guy.. and im with the other about penner…. definetely no, im stressed enough rooting for a guy like Horton.. now add in another guy who is just like him , excpet bigger and slower.. no thank you
I agree with this post 100%. No to Penner and yes to Gilbert, who is a very underrated player and a good US kid to boot. As said, with a better supporting cast, he could be a much better player on paper, improve his on ice product by simply playing a different role, and give this team what it needs.
If the price is right, pull the trigger Chia Pete.
penner, ryder & horton couldn’t all go cold at the same time, right? what about the law of averages?
penner is a great fit. big, tough, 30 goal scorer. go get him.
If there’s a team in this league that could improve with the addition of Sam Gagne. They are out of the playoffs anyway. He’s not only small but he’s slow and inconsistent. We’ve got plenty of that.
