Let’s do a quick mailbag
This time of year, things change pretty quick in terms of the roster and trades. But with the team on the road Thursday and Friday, I can fit in a quick mailbag. What’s up with Rask? Can we show him some film of last season??? I know he’s young…but this is a pretty dramatic drop-off from the hot hand of last winter/spring

Do we really need Thomas Kaberle or a puck moving defensemen to better our team? I understand that our powerplay needs work, but I don’t want some new puck moving defensement to come in and replace Stuart or McQuiad and not put in the same defense/physical effort. Plus, for the past couple of games, I have seen a bunch of defensemen on our team pinching up with the forwards. I think I saw Seidenberg behind the Toronto net like three times… Seidenberg! As far the puck moving defensemen only helping our powerplay, I have no problem with Bergeron or Recchi playing the point, that is not our issue, we move the puck well, we just don’t have people finishing in front of the net when we actually get a shot off. I do however think that we do need to get a defensemen that is better than a Stuart or a McQuiad. I like Chris Phillips, Charelli knows him, Kelly knows him, and most important, he use to be Chara’s defensive partner. He is very good in his own end, and plays like a Bruin. He is not the puck moving defnesemen that Kaberle, but he also not any of Carolina’s would-be Kaberles (White, Corvo, Pitkanen). Do not settle for any of them. I want Kaberle if we can get him because he is defensive as well as is very good, but I am just saying that people should get upset if we decide to go with Phillips. We don’t need puck moving defensemen, we just need a better group.

Does the regular season even matter? Last year I didn’t think they’d get past Buffalo and they almost got to the Conference finals. Whose to say, with the right coaching, they can’t make arum for it again?
