Reports: Your new Bruins will be Kaberle, Peverley, Valabik
Plenty of reports out there, but no official word from Bruins yet, that Boston has made two trades today.
One trade, which was first reported accurately by Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe this morning, would send prospect Joe Colborne, Boston’s first-round pick and a conditional draft pick to Toronto for Tomas Kaberle. The second ships Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler to Atlanta for Rick Peverley and Boris Valabik.
Analysis and reaction coming up soon. But here’s a look at what your lineup might look like by next Tuesday in Calgary:
Lucic-Krejci-Horton
Marchand-Bergeron-Recchi
Ryder-Peverley-Seguin
Kelly-Campbell-Thornton
Chara-Kampfer
Kaberle-Seidenberg
Ference-Boychuk
McQuaid
Keep in mind, Peverley has won 55.5 percent of his draws this season.

you only need to use one name for the lineup. he’s the only one that matters.
tim thomas
great trade with Alanta peverly is a savy clone and that guy Valbik is a monster could come in handy in rough games and the playoffs against philly or though teams like that matt cooke keep your head on go Bruins
Anyone think there is more to come?
I have a feeling that Ryder might be of interest to L.A even with the return not being much, I just feel like he should be the odd forward out.
If keeping Ryder, maybe Kelly or Peveraly could be trade bait. Seguin,Kij,Savy,Bere,Camp,Kelly,Pev… thats a lot of centers for next year.
Glad to see some gutsy moves made today by Chia & co. I like Stewie but his skills were redundant to Quaiders, and he’s honestly a better fit for this team long-term (more discipline, right shot, cheaper, younger). “No Show” Joe Colborne has not impressed a bit, and was never gonna be part of this organization’s future anyways (still loaded at C), so I like throwing him in the Kaberle deal. The only thing I worry about is dishing TOR potentially two first rounders in next years draft. I’m sure they’ll waste them, but nevertheless its a bit of a steep price to pay. Lets hope Kaberle works out for us, we win a cup, and he resigns happily. Then it will all be worthwhile!
Also, I’m curious to see if both Peverley & Kelly are still in B’s uniforms come March 1st (or if someone else is on the move). Seems like acquiring two 3rd line centers is a bit redundant, but maybe they have other plans in store. As good as Peverley’s faceoff % is, do you think he maybe ends up riding wing on the ‘Soup line?
Working on it, Zach.

matt , what did you think of what we gave up today?
At least we can stop putting Recchi at the point
Rollie, they’re both L shots. Who would you move to R. I hate when Chara moves to the R. Don’t know how Kaberle does there.
Sorry Matt K
I know they did the move to make cap space, I just thought Chia would have been able to get more for Stuart.
Agree Joe. I think Peverly’s play is also very important. He is a cog in Atlanta. He sounds like another Marchand
Well we certainly paid more for Kaberle than I expected, PC must believe that he can resign him after the season. I think people are going to like Rich Peverley quite a bit… he’s a quality player. Between Kabs and Pevs, our PP just got much better. As for the discussion about who to sit, I think Kampfer should take a seat for the moment, and obviously Paille hits the press box. Nice combinations Matt, although personally, I’d like to see Kabs and Chara paired full time.
Whether these trades are any good beyond this season hinges entirely on whether Kaberle re-signs. If yes, I think these were good deals (although sad to see Stuart go). If not, a disaster.
completely agree that lonewolf plays over boychuck, also wanted to say that i did like the peverly pick up ,both he and kelly are gamers but peverly has a lot more offensive upside.. im kind of surprised at how people arent shocked on how much we gave toronto for kaberle.. keep in mind that he could only be here for a couple months
if it brings that cup thing come june, i’d say it was worth it. gotta give chia and cam credit for not waiting for next year.
You can’t sit the Lone Wolf. He’s outplayed Boychuck, fights, is just as physical if not moreso, and gets the puck on the net more often than johnny. You can’t keep him as the odd man out, look at his plus/minus. That’d be stupidity at its finest.
hated the moves today..way overpaid for kaberle, hate to see wheeler go , which i know im the minority on that one.. stuart i have no qualms with moving but i really looked forward to watching colbourne in a bruins jersey
Peverley = Poor Man’s Savvy.
Hearing a lot of whining about PC on other sites – Myself – I’m pretty impressed.
David, it’s easy: $$$$
These are the type of trades that contenders make.
I am pretty psched. Except for the loss of Stuart. Wished it was Boychuck instead.
Geez Tru – you just through the whole team on its head. I guess the lineup could arrive there eventually, but most likely Matt’s got it nailed, unless that 3rd line can’t handle their own end (Peverley -16 / 2nd worst to only Bogosian), where by Kelly will need to fill that spot and then ?? Matt – can you see Peverly holding down a wing spot if it comes to that?
Why scratch the Lone Wolf? he’s outplayed Boychuck the past few games (and what I saw of last night).
We lost on the Kessel deal when it happened too and the one where we got rask….
Also, we shouldn’t break up the bergeron line, but I do think that we need a mix up, and horton won’t leave the top two cuz Julien needs to massage his ego (in order to get anything out of him).

Ha, I forgot Kampfer.
That probably makes McQuaid the scratch unless Boychuk is in Julien’s doghouse.
MK
over-payed for kaberle. I like the wheeler stuart trade we got a good return in peverely but does suck to see stuart go.
Like the Kaberle deal, my buddy who’s a ‘hawks fan (with no particular bias for or against the Bruins) He thought this was our next chapter of theft from the leafs.
I also don’t think we got value on Wheeler and Stuart. Should have sent separate packages (Stuart would have been in demand and we could have done better, though I might just not be familiar enough with Valabik.
Ryder shouldn’t be playing on a 3rd or 4th line. We need to have 2 shutdown lines for the playoffs and 2 scoring lines. I would like:
Recchi/Bergeron/Horton
Lucic/Krejci/Ryder
Marchand/Peverly/Kelly
(Paille)Seguin/Campbell/Thornton
Boychuck (Kampfer)/Chara
Kaberle/Seidenberg
Ference/McQuid
When are these players going to be available?
I think we overpaid for Kaberle and hate to see Stuart go. Good riddance to Wheeler. You will never hear from him again.
Like getting rid of wheeler who has played with as much heart and effort as the goal posts. With that said…we have 6 centers and 7 defensemen on the roster. I like the depth, but the biggest problem all year has been, in the words of the great Barry Melrose (my vote to replace Julien if Milbury says no) “This team is all Swedish, and no Finnish”. Nobody has had the taste for blood that is necessary to SCORE consistently since we traded Kessel.
Valabik is 6’7″ and a mean SOB, but not much else. Some meanness down in Providence and could probably play in a pinch if a call up is needed.
I’d rather see:
Marchand/Bergeron/Recchi
Lucic/Peverley/Ryder
Paille/Krejci/Horton
Kelly/Campbell/Seguin(Thornton)
Chara/Kaberle
Seidenberg/Kampfer(Boychuk)
Ference/McQuaid
Thomas(Rask)
somebody needs to report on what numbers these new guys will wear, as they both will need new ones. here’s hoping we trade Ryder and Hamill for a wing, now.
Love it. Really good deals today.
I agree John – Kampfer stays, Boychuk with Ference, Quaider 7th.
Lost a little youth, but got MUCH better and deeper in the last 3 days.
Valabik is going to be Providence roster fill
I see Kampy in there, too.
Love what Peverley does for the PP. Bergeron can point the 2nd unit with Seids/Boychuk and Peverly on the dot and Rex down low.
Interesting lines, I had thought Kelly was the 3rd line center but some faceoff skills would be useful, and I like Segz on an offensive line instead of the grinders, although Marchy made that work pretty well.
does anyone know how Valabik is?
Matt , you have Boychuk paired with Chara, I would have thought Kampfer instead ? Kamp has played better
Hope team chemistry reacts well.
Go Bruins!
