For those hoping the Bruins would still upgrade their top six forwards between now and the Feb. 28 trade deadline, it appears one potentially attractive option is off the table.
ESPN’s Pierre Lebrun reports that Colorado will not be moving veteran winger Milan Hejduk. Here’s what Lebrun writes:
So what now for the Avalanche after their blockbuster trade with St. Louis? A lot of people are wondering about veteran winger Milan Hejduk because he’s an UFA July 1. But GM Greg Sherman told ESPN.com Saturday that Hejduk is not moving.
“We’re not trading Milan,” Sherman said.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli is already on record as saying that any deal he makes between now and the deadline will be of the “minor” variety. Depending on your opinion of Hejduk at his age and contract status, you might classify him as minor.
Nonetheless, the Avs — who have lost 10 in a row and made a couple head-scratcher deals over the last week — appear content to let Hejduk (17-28-45 in 52 games this season) play his way into unrestricted free agency this summer.
