Julien ready to have Peverley wing it from the start

WILMINGTON, Mass. — As with all coaches, Bruins bench boss Claude Julien reserves the right to change his mind. But Julien did reveal today that he’ll probably start newcomer Rich Peverley off as a winger.
The Bruins didn’t go through line drills during their practice at Ristuccia Arena, but Julien said during his post-practice media briefing that he would probably give a line of Michael Ryder, Chris Kelly and Peverley a shot. The team will practice again Monday at Ristuccia before departing for their Canadian road trip that starts Tuesday night in Calgary.
“It doesn’t really matter. I can play wing. I don’t really mind where I play,” said Peverley, who has played mostly center the last couple years with Atlanta and Nashville.
If the Bruins feature a Ryder-Kelly-Peverley line, that could drop No. 2 overall pick Tyler Seguin into a fourth-line role, where he would compete for a lineup spot with Daniel Paille. Julien didn’t commit to anything as far as Seguin, so there remains the possibility he could see some time among the Bruins’ top six up front.
Thats how you would describe a bruin.And thats why we havent’t won a cup since 72.Those type of players dont win cups.we need SNIPER and it could be seguin.But with claude pulling his strings I doubt it.Ask new jersey how they like claude.didnt they win the cup after they fired him mid season
I alway thought of a typical Bruin is a guy who plays with heart and grit aka Campbell. I’d rather have this type of player than a skilled guy who plays 25% of the time. I wouldn’t want three Campells playing centre – but on the team.

Everybody loves their fourth line center and the backup goalie. If we had 3 more Campbells we’d be out of the playoffs.
I agree that Seguin hasn’t played well enough at this point to illicit top 6 minutes, BUT he has outplayed Ryder in the last few games and while Ryder hasn’t been horrible, I would love to see Claude award his young player for stepping up. Argument for kelley on the 3rd line makes sense, but I suspect we will see a lot of the thus far suggested combinations over the next few weeks to see what works well.

you may like to have three campbells but you aren’t going very far in the playoffs with 3 fourth line centers. this team needs more top six forwards, not more bottom six ones. campbell is good at what he does but what he is is a 4th line center. at some point this team is going to have to acknowledge that you need hard work AND talent to win.

Kelly should move to the 4th line on wing – you can still use him on special teams accordingly- if CJ puts Seguin in the press box or on the 4th line wing then you can bet he is going to be looking for work next year
I don’t disagree that Seguin should be in the minors. But he does not belong on either of the top 2 lines. And the 3rd line is suspect from a defensive stand point.
Putting Seguin on the 4th line would not be a bad idea. Look at how it worked for Marchand.
If Kelly turns out to be anything like Campbell it will be a great trade. I’d take 3 Campbell’s if I could.
CJ is doing the best he can to win games. If you can recall Joe Thorton played on the 4th line for the first year.
kelly was an absolute waste of a trade and cap space. they already have one greg campbell why did they need two? turning seguin into daniel paille part II is idiotic. the kid is playing well so why not knock him down a peg or two? that makes no sense. this rookie season has turned into a complete disaster with this coach. what a waste. if they wanted to waste his time they should have sent him back to jrs and saved some money.
PatrickD, go to Altanta’s roster. At -16 he’s tied for last. But my comment was on the entire line 3rd line. Putting Kelly on it evens out the other 2 weaker defensive players.

You cant use Peverley’s plus/minus as any kind of barometer…he racked up that -16 playing for an offense first team that were anything but reliable in their own end.
Guys, we all want Segiun to do well, but let’s wake up. He’s a liability on defence and puting him with Ryder and the -16 Peverley is not a good combo.
4th line seams the best… for us to win games, and at this point in the season, this is the main goal?
Julian seems to be lost on how to coach this kid. How is Seguin going to learn sitting in the press box, playing 11 minutes a game and being sent to the 4th line? Paille is the poor mans PJ Axelsson, and at least PJ was good for +20pts a year, Paille not so much. When given the choice of #19 or #20…it’s a no-brainer.
The whole reason for flipping a second round pick was to get a reliable center (read defensive responsibility and faceoffs) for the 3rd line which had been lacking all year. Kelly is your third line center unless Peverley shows he can handle it.

Gotta say, Paille has played better but I do think that Seguin has too. Seguin shouldn’t bumped to the 4th line, but I can understand why Julien would like to see what they can do in the top 9. Give Seguin some earned ice time though.
Paille has played really well with the 4th line and has 3 points in 5 games. To bad people don’t seem to noticed these things.
i’d like to see segzy with campbell and thornton. worked for marchand.
I liked Kelly but id like him even more to be on the 4th line. Seguin has definitely progressed why slow him down now. Poor kid he just cant get a break with Coach.
You took the words out of my mouth Michael and Jeremy. I think Kelly with Campbell and Thornton would be a great fourth line.
if you’re gonna bump seguin to the 4th line, you may as well send him to JRs take his 3 mil cap hip and use it to deal for a top 6 forward. He’s a waste on the fourth line not phyiscal on the puck and loses like every one on one battle. It makes no sense
That’s absurd. Seguin is really coming on and developing over the past 4 games. Have him center Peverley and Ryder and put Kelly in Paille’s spot. Seguin is dangerous every time he carries the puck into the offensive zone.
Bumping Seguin to the 4th line does not seem like the right move. He has been playing really well, and Kelly would seem to fit on that wing with Campbell and Thornton.
