Poll result: Bruin of the Week Marchand making major trophy push

Marchand/By S. Bradley
It’ll be a major upset if Brad Marchand doesn’t win the Bruins’ Seventh Player Award, and it’ll be similarly surprising if he garners enough attention league-wide to be a finalist for the Calder Trophy.
Nonetheless, he deserves both, and continued to make his case last week with 2-1-3 totals and a plus-3 rating in three games. He scored both his goals in the big win at Ottawa, which Boston accomplished despite a long day featuring trade rumors and finally deals that were made.
Readers of TheBruinsBlog.net rewarded Marchand’s efforts by voting him the Bruin of the Week:
Who should be the Bruin of the Week?
- Brad Marchand (60%, 64 Votes)
- Tuukka Rask (32%, 34 Votes)
- Andrew Ference (6%, 6 Votes)
- Mark Recchi (2%, 2 Votes)
Total Voters: 106
Cracking the Calder final three will be difficult, with higher-profile players Jeff Skinner, Taylor Hall and Logan Couture — first-round picks all — also having great freshman seasons. Marchand’s 18 goals are third on the Bruins, but just fifth among rookies. He gets much less ice time than the above-mentioned trio while playing for the most successful of the four teams, but voters aren’t likely to look that deep into the numbers.
At least, as proven by the vote on this blog, Marchand is earning the admiration of the hometown fans. And that Seventh Player Award, which goes to the player that exceeds expectations, should be in his possession come mid-April.
Bruin of the Week is presented by Sully’s Brand.
Great work Marchand…kind of sad that he is 3rd on Bruins scoring, yet only 5th among rookies…the high earners on the Bruins should feel a little red-faced.
I think Marchand is great and would not be disappointed if he wins the SPA but I think Thomas is equally deserving. The B’s would not be where they are today without his spectacular play and after his showing last year he has definitely exceeded my expectations.
Did PC know that Neal was available?Would have been a good bruin.
brad definitely deserves the 7th man and please, no individual nhl trophies this year including the conn smythe. win that cup thing instead.
