Final score: Bruins 3, Calgary 1

Chiarelli has confidence in Lucic & others/By S. Bradley
If you watched the game on NESN tonight, you know that the Calgary Flames were “red hot” and “on fire.”
But the Bruins were able to battle through all the bad puns and prevail over the Flames tonight in the first game of the Western Canada portion of their four-game road trip, 3-1, behind two goals by Milan Lucic.
The Flames had been 11-1-2 in their previous 14 games.
Lucic’s goals book ended the victory, as he scored at even strength 59 seconds into the game and then tapped in an empty-netter with 46.9 seconds left in the third period. He now has a team-leading 26 goals on the season.
Here’s a look at the rest of the box score:
•Two games off over a week of rest did nothing to reduce Tim Thomas’ effectiveness, as he stopped 28 of 29 shots to earn the win. Many of his saves, as usual, were of the spectacular variety to cover up some of Boston’s leakiness in its own end.
•Brad Marchand scored Boston’s other goal. It was his 19th of the season.
•David Krejci assisted on both of Lucic’s goals and was plus-2. Lucic, Mark Recchi and Adam McQuaid were all plus-2.
•Rich Peverley made his Bruins debut and skated 15:15. He recorded no points and no shots on goal but won two of four faceoffs.
Joe like your post but that o for on the PP was the first in seven games. It has been better.
Did I see that the PK is ranked 14th? Not too long ago they were #3. YIKES!
I think it’s worth a try. Two quick guys on a line can pose it’s own problems for defenders. Both of them have hockey speed as in lateral ability. I’d like to see if they can solidify a spot and have a few games to rest and experiment. I’m hopeful but not counting on that.
A few things flew under the radar in last nights game, that the B’s/specific players should be commended for:
1.) 3 individual times in the first period the B’s turned over the puck deep in the offensive zone and a backchecking forward chased their man through the neutral zone and BEAT them to the Flames’ blueline (Seguin at around 5-8 mins in, Horton
and Peverly later) to avoid an odd-man rush. Especially noteworthy for these 3. Don’t know if it’s CJ’s harping on team defense or just some gusto instilled in the team overall. Either way, kudos.
2.) Another 0-for on the PP, but the attacking-zone possession has looked better the past few games.
3.) Horton
doesn’t show up in the box score, but he definitely showed up in the corners and down low. Good effort. Strong kid, good skater and sneaky-good passer has taken a lot of criticism for scoring lull, but still contributing on cycles and in transition.
4.) Peverly and Seguin both gained the blueline with speed a number of times last night only to have to curl and wait for support. Great to see the assets these two can contribute, but please, CJ, skate them on the same line. That might even get Ryder going again. #skateSeguinwithPeverly, anyone?
Seguin looked really good, maybe being on the 4th line had something to do with that, but he was making plays all through the second and third, taking shots, and made a few takeaways. Hopefully it leads to a few more points in the next few games.
Kelley does look a lot like another Campbell, but a few campbells in the bottom 6 could go a long way. I really liked Peverly for our 3rd line too. I’d love to see him and Seguin together, as well as kelly on the 4th. I expect we will see that in the next few games.
The way Seguin has responded after his healthy scratches is exactly what the coaching staff hoped for. This says a lot about the character of this 18yr old. We have a good one here guys and gals!
I think some time with Campbell and Thorton might be good for Seguin. It didn’t hurt Marchand at all and both men always bring their A game and don’t get lazy. I think Seguin has looked pretty good since his time in the press box.
great game, and i usually like jack edwards and think hes very good at what he does, but, man is he talking up these new guys.. kaberle is good but not a god and chris kelly is another greg campbell.. i have a feeling that once peverly gets it going we could be in for a treat! but come on jack take it easy on the praising of the new guys
when was the last time chara didn’t lead the team in toi? kaberle did last night.
I think seguin is responding well to all ths drama.Hope he is rewarded not punished agin.

Seguin looked great tonight. He played good defensively and had some very nice chances. Good win for the B’s.
I put it on in the third, and Seguin actually looked pretty good skating with Campbell and Thornton. He made some strong defensive plays and took some nice shots.
