Or should we say the final score was Tyler Seguin minus-1, Taylor Hall minus-2?
No, seriously, the two super rookies barely factored in the decision tonight in Edmonton.
The Bruins got a goal and assist from Michael Ryder, who also set up Rich Peverley’s game-winning goal, in taking down the 30th-ranked Oilers.
Peverley’s goal, his first in a Bruins uniform, came on the back end of a give-and-g0 at 19:08 of the second period and gave Boston a 3-1 lead.
Here’s a look at the rest of the box score:
•Goaltender Tuukka Rask had some awkward moments, but he finished with 15 saves to earn the win.
•Hall, the No. 1 overall draft pick last June, not only was minus-2 but was point-less and shot-less. He also picked up a roughing minor. Seguin was point-less with a couple giveaways but fired two shots on goal.
•Nathan Horton won the first of the game’s three fights with a right that knocked Edmonton’s Theo Peckham from the game. Brad Marchand and Andrew Cogliano later scrapped to a draw and Jim Vandermeer slightly edged Milan Lucic on points.
•After the game the Bruins officially announced a minor-league deal that brings David Laliberte and Stefan Chaput, a pair of forwards, to the Providence (AHL) farm club for forward Brian McGrattan and defenseman Sean Zimmerman, who had both been playing with the P-Bruins. I don’t expect either player to get his name etched in the Stanley Cup this summer.

for parity’s sake, bruins and the rest of the eastern playoff teams shouldn’t have play the oilers for awhile.
Taylor Hall -3 put a smile on my face. Did this Ryder guy come over with Peverly in a trade, where has that effort been all year. Hard to believe that Vancouver is the best team and the Oilers are the worst team. Just shows you how good the league is. If you havn’t already, check out “Oil Change” on the NHL network, I have been following it all year and it was fun to watch them in a game.
Seguin looked good from my seats.
Were it not for the presence of the refs (who, oddly enough, weren’t around to make some obvious calls against the Oil), Boychuk would have ended Brule’s life. For a kid who is 5’10″ and 190lbs soaking wet, he really must have trusted that the refs would protect him from getting his mug pounded in.
In other news… the Oilers suck. Like we didn’t know that already. They might be something fearsome in a few years under good management, but for now, I wonder how Taylor Hall’s golf swing is going to look in April.
Should have been 4 fights with the last one being Johnny Boychuk breaking Brule’s jaw for that cheap and unnecessary cross-check to the back after the whistle, when Johnny was still on his knees talking to another Oiler sans helmet. That was unreal and the fact that the refs left that slide was sickening.
We’ll see how Looch’s pinky finger is doing tomorrow after he asked Marchand in the penalty box if it looked broken.
Who knew Horton would get things going with a scrap this evening and follow it up with a goal?
