The Bruins are scheduled to take on Ottawa Tuesday with the same roster that they faced Edmonton Sunday because the club made no NHL trades today and defenseman Andrew Ference remains out.
When asked by the assembled media for an estimate on the length of Ference’s absence today in Canada’s capital, Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli said it could be a week and a half to two weeks “or maybe more.” But Chiarelli still classified the injury as “short-term.”
Ference is out with what’s being called a lower-body injury. While unconfirmed, it’s suspected he suffered the injury on this hit by Vancouver’s Victor Oreskovich in the first period Saturday night.
Ference did not return after the first period and missed Sunday’s game at Edmonton. Steven Kampfer took Ference’s lineup spot and figures to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
Chiarelli also said that recently signed Shane Hnidy is further away from returning than Ference.
