BOSTON — Playing professional sports comes with more perks than just the ability to make millions playing a game and traveling the country.

Pro athletes seem to always get the chance to branch out into other areas, like TV, movies and music. As you saw earlier this week, the new Dropkick Murphys video for their new song “Going Out in Style” features appearances by Hall-of-Famer Bobby Orr and current Bruins forwards Milan Lucic and Shawn Thornton.

“It was a fun experience. It was pretty laid back. Those guys are good guys so that made it a lot easier,” Thornton said today after the Bruins’ morning skate about the filming of his scenes, which basically him entailed sitting at a bar.

Both players were contacted by Ken Casey. But in Lucic’s case, he wasn’t going to be around for most of the filming because he was going away for the All-Star break. So that’s how he wound up just chasing a kid on a street near his house.

So the question remains: will either player hang up his skates now to chase the glory of rock-n-roll career with the Dropkick Murphys?

“I wish. I’d love to go some of the places they get to go. Kenny golf every day, too. If I can jump on one of their flights I definitely will,” said Thornton.

Added Lucic: “I’ve got to take care of what I’ve got to do here, and who knows what the future holds.”

There’s no telling what either player’s post-hockey career will entail. But they both know they’ve been immortalized as part of the Boston culture.

“It’s kind of cool. And you look at that video, he wanted a feel for Boston and what makes Boston so special, so it’s kind of a cool video if you look at it that way,” said Lucic.
