Bruins show Lightning they have to toughen up before diving into playoffs
For the Lightning to get back into the mix, they’re going to have to learn to go about their physical play honestly or get their hands on Montreal’s guidebook to underhanded and unsportsmanlike play.

Hungus- It seems none of the Bruins games this season broadcasted on the NHL network have come from the NESN feed, and of course if NHL network has the game, the DTV’s Center Ice won’t broadcast the NESN coverage.
Thornton is just a badass when it comes to taking care of his boys. He and Campbell feed wonderfully off of each other.
Right on, Matt – super column. Boy, did that 3rd period Bruin PP look weak. Also, Horton has been working hard to get great opportunities, but he can’t be counted on to find the back of the net.
I don’t know Hungus. Knee on knee? Did they even make contact?
matt, how come nhl network never carries the nesn feed? they always carry the other team’s local feed.
you would have thought thornton was matt cooke the way those homers kept crying about the ‘knee on knee’ to downie.
Their power play WAS abysmal. Now it just stinks.
Before the trades I swear the Bruins were asking if it is possible to decline being on the power play.
I am hoping it continues to improve. I am happy because I now have hope that it can. Before I jsut hoped we could win one series.
Bruins are playing playoff hockey right now! Their power play is abyssmal and in the playoffs, those special teams will make the difference! My fear is they are playing at a playoff level right now (tight checking, dump and chase) and they won’t be able to dial it up to another level in the playoffs. Their lack of goal scoring against mediocre teams is worrisome.
tsn reporting that tampa bay has changed its name to the diving espositos.
Aside from what we learned about the southeast diving team, Marchand was robbed 3 times last night. Given every single one was to the same spot, but you would think that he could bury one of those!
Also, didn’t get the number, but before Horton’s tripping penalty (which was their best dive of the night, seeing as how the player stayed on his feet, then conveniently fell when he saw the ref looking at him) Horton was yapping with a TB player and even went to the edge of the bench next to the TB bench to continue his conversation off-ice. He was looking for a dance partner all night.
espo should be ashamed of his team. bigger floppers, divers and fake artists than the habs.
Also, I take back what I said the other day about benching Thornton. He had a very good game. He must read the comments on this blog.
And I thought Recchi had his best game in a long, long time. I love it when he’s pissed off, he brings the rest of the team up with him.
Matt, totally agreed. As I was watching the game last night I thought that the Lightning have a lot of raw talent, but not the toughness or the heart to win the Stanley Cup. They reminded me a lot of the San Jose Sharks in recent years. They might win a playoff series or two on talent alone, but they don’t have what it takes.
(Of course, now that I’ve tempted fate it’ll be Tampa Bay/San Jose for the cup…)
Agreed, Bojangles… Fear not, it will come in time. Er, how long have Bruins fans been saying that?
Seriously though, if they keep playing with this kind of swagger and energy, pucks will have no choice but to go in.
Bs will do well to bury more of their chances. Could have easily have had 4 tonight.
Nit-picking I know.. but I’m thinking cup now.
Great stuff, Matt. I like how you slid Lady Gaga in there. Clever. And you’ve got to admit that Horton has been a beast lately – Lucic being THE beast of this team.
With all the weapons the bruins have on this team, the most important one (arguably, of course) is the dominance of the first line. If the Bruins want a better shot at going deep in the playoffs, they need the HuLK like to be this good, consistently.
