Bruins rookie Marchand mouths off this morning in Montreal

Marchand/By S. Bradley
It seems Bruins rookie Brad Marchand wasn’t content just playing a natural rivalry game tonight against Montreal a month after the teams combined for more than 180 penalty minutes at TD Garden.
This morning after the Bruins’ pregame skate at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Marchand decided to do something completely uncharacteristic of any player that has pulled on a Boston sweater since the Claude Julien era began — mouth off.
Sean Gordon of the Globe & Mail posted the story this afternoon:
Marchand says:
“They [Montreal] like to get in and shoot their mouths of and then when you hit them they’ll dive down and fall easy.”
Marchand then spoke about the last Bruins-Canadiens game, which ended with a line brawl that featured several non-fighters from the Habs fighting some of the tougher Bruins. Earlier in the game, Bruins non-fighter David Krejci had to defend himself as well.
Marchand said:
“They stir the pot, and they got what they deserved [in the last game] … whatever anyone’s mad about, they can suck it up, it’s not our fault.”
Earlier this season in Montreal, Marchand was on the wrong end of a P.K. Subban open-ice check that forced the Bruins forward to miss a couple games. The pesky player might find himself targeted again after the puck drops at 7:30 tonight, but not just by the Habs. His own coaching staff, PR staff and veteran teammates probably aren’t too pleased he veered off message when talking about what’s supposed to be “just another game.”
Hopefully he doesn’t take too much heat, because candor like Marchand’s is what keeps this job and this league interesting. For one thing, he definitely piqued interest in tonight’s match-up.
[...] on-ice pesky play didn’t do enough to agitate the Canadiens and their fan base this season, his comments last month about Habs players’ tendency to talk a lot of trash, dive and fall down clinched his place among the pantheon of despised [...]
Funny, After the game, I didn’t see Marchand mouthing off how the Habs are a dirty team. Then again it’s hard to put down another team after your team mate possibly ended another players career with the cheapest play of the year.
All you guys are idiots, ribzzy’s points are all spot on, marchands a punk, why play paille over seguin? Why play seguin an average of 8 minutes a game? Why not have seguin on the power play over recchi and why is ryder such a puck hog? Lastly where is my sandwich.
Two things amaze me about the Bruins these days. Firstly, ever player on the team has gotten a little tougher and a lot more mouthy since George Laraque left the Habs. Secondly, anyone ever notice how selective Lucic is when picking someone to fight and how his helment never comes off during a fight
If you don’t want Marchand then something is wrong with you. He plays hard. More than the rest of these losers. I suspect you want a team full of Ryder-type drifters
Ribzzy, I’m trying to figure out how Seguin can play in 60 out of a possible 65 games and also be “sitting every night”. As for the fighting, you might notice that when the Bruins are physical and win fights they generally win the game as well. Joe Thornton was traded under a different president, gm, and coach so I don’t see why that would happen again. Who’s your favorite team? It’s hard for me to believe it’s the Bruins from the way you talk about the Bruins.
Maybe a little Kenny “the rat” Linesman…in the making…not a bad thing really.
I love it when you get candid comments like Marchand’s. Too often it seems like all we hear are the “canned” comments that every player seems programmed to say.
Let him stir the pot. It just makes the games more interesting.
The fact is that Marchand didn’t say anything that wasn’t true. He is just saying what everyone is thinking. I hate guys who dive and do the stuff Montreal. We need a league with more Cam Neely’s and Gordie Howe Hat Tricks and less whining and diving. I’m not saying we should have more Islander – Penguin type games. But a few more hard hitting games like the last Boston – Montreal one are good for the league, and entertaining as hell to watch.
Seguin should play every night . Why draft this kid if your gonna sit him every night.Pallie and campbell suck put them on waivers and they would probably clear.Seguin has 10 goals with limited playing time he is gonna look good in a shark uniform like thorton.way to go cam and claude hey but we will probably win most of the fights. One and done in the playoffs keep buying tickets they will keep making first round
I would like to see the old merlot line back together because it’s not a big deal if Marchand is out there pestering everyone on a line that is supposed to do that. Give Peverly or Seguin a chance to play with Bergy and Rex for a couple games.
Well said Hungus. Marchand’s our agitator; love it when he can draw penalties. However yapping on the ice and talking shit through the press are two different things. One of the best things that differentiates hockey players from other major sports atheletes is class. Marchand needs to keep the shit talking on the ice, and represent the Bruins as a classy organization when dealing with the press and public.
We do need to remember the goal scoring as a plus to the agitation he was supposed to bring. He plays the punk well without being dirty/dangerous. We will see if he makes any more bold statements like this though, we probably won’t hear a peep about it, but I’m sure Marchand will.
Also Rizzby, the spaces help us to understand what you are saying rather than ignoring it; it’s really helpful actually.
brad’s a punk, but he’s our punk. chara and rex will let him know if he takes it too far.
Well put aron.I gues im trying to act marchan-like by stiring the pot here.I like players who play tough shut their mouth and score. he is knd of cocky though,Maybe he should put a couple good years(not just one before he acts like the next great one.Next year he’s gonna need an extra locker for his ego
Whoa, whoa, whoa, let’s not get carried away Ribzzy. No one deserves to be compared to Ribeiro.
Marchand is straying further and further across the line between effective NHLer and bush league lately. He’s become undisciplined and that isn’t helpful to the team’s success, or his own. He could stand to be reigned in a little bit.
Marchand and Mike Ribeiro are exactly identical. And bnighty are you the spacebarpolice?
“If he had any other jersey on you guys would think he was a dirty player.”
Wrong. It all depends on who he is talking about. There are dirty teams out there that do not respect the unwirtten rules of the game (Dallas) and there are teams that mouth off and cannot back it up physically (Montreal). I don’t care if a Bruin says it, I don’t care if a player from another team says it, mostly because I have heard it from both before. These accusations do not just come out of nowhere. Are the Canadiens’ players complaining about how we mouth off and fall easy. No, because we don’t do that. They will mouth off about us in a different way. Marchand is stirring the pot, which is fine if he backs it up, which he will.
The kid has talen no doubt but chest to chest is one thing.HE is a punk.If he had any other jersey on you guys would think he was a dirty player.he should stick to scoring goals and not acting tough.
His job is to mouth off, and it’s what makes his game as good as it is. It’s about time the Bruins had a guy that got people off their game.
His antics are fine nothing pisses a player off worst then a pest. When I played nothing got me going more then the weasel smiling it really knocks you off your game, So if you think what hes doing isnt good for the game play alittle against a pest and see what happens. This isnt golf not to many gentleman in the game, even Crosby does dirty plays you do what you have to do to win.
I like the contribution Marchand has made to the Bruins goal production. above and beyond expectation. but he needs to shutup and knock off the bullstuff both on and off of the ice and focus on scoring goals. personally I am getting real tired of his antics and it is not good for the team. somebody
really needs to shut him up.
Marchand plays with energy and desire. He didn’t call out a specific person, he merely commented on what appears to be a team-wide “strategy”. I’m fired up for this game… hopefully his teammates are too.
Also, Marchy has never backed down from an argument. I think he only has one fight, but he’s gone chest-to-chest with guys much larger than him. Give him some credit for playing with the fire that he does.
Marchand is absolutely right. I agree with him 100%. He is probably listening to the press in Montreal because they are insulting the Bruins and how they play and calling them goons. Maybe it’s not what he should be saying, but I hope all he gets is a pat on the back for saying what a lot of fans are thinking.
ribzzy how about you invest in a new space bar? and did you miss marchands fight in edmonton i think it was? kid has been dying to get someone to drop them
He tried to against Pittsburgh. Couldn’t find a dancer partner, though. Not an uncommon problem for a Bruin.
Oh Please!!! like anybody on Montreal is going to back up any crap that comes out of their mouths. They talk crap then flop on the ice like a fish out of water.
The kid isn’t stupid. He’s hoping for cheap shots, just so long as the refs catch them. You just wrote an article on how the Bruins would like to get more PP opp’s. This is how you do it…
marchand should watch his mouth. He is a punk.Dont care what sweater he wears a punk is a punk.leta see him drop gloves and back up his bullshit
