Lucic/By S. Bradley
WILMINGTON, Mass. — Considering a Montreal player had been rushed to the hospital a period earlier, it seemed a tad inappropriate that at the tail end of the Bruins’ 4-1 loss last night Milan Lucic was trying to challenge Benoit Pouliot to a fight.
It becomes very inappropriate when you learn that, as suspected, Lucic was trying to send a message to Pouliot for something that took place in a game a month ago — a fight between Pouliot and David Krejci Feb. 9 — and not something that happened at the Bell Centre last night.
“Well, he fought [Krejci]. He’s pretty tough when he fights [Krejci] but when he has to fight a guy his own size he clearly won’t do it,” Lucic told TheBruinsBlog.net in a 1-on-1 chat after practice today at Ristuccia Arena.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pound Pouliot did in fact turn down Lucic’s offer to dance, which the Bruins winger delivered repeatedly by way of mouth over the course of a skate down the entire length of the ice as the clock ticked down on the Habs’ victory. After a whistle, the exchange of words continued until Lucic was taken to the penalty box for roughing at 17:34. Had Pouliot accepted Lucic’s offer to fight, the Bruins forward risked receiving a misconduct and suspension if he also received an instigator on the play.
Even if you believe that Pouliot, who has just three career NHL fighting majors according to hockeyfights.com, was chicken, you can at least see his side of the decision not to fight. His teammate Max Pacioretty had been wheeled out of the rink about 30 minutes earlier after an unfortunate hit from Zdeno Chara. And Montreal was on its way to an impressive win over a division rival.
“I mean, you know … that was the only opportunity for let’s say myself, because that was the only opportunity I was on the ice with him. So that’s why, I felt like even if you don’t fight, you still let the guy know,” said Lucic.
If you check out the fight video here it kind of looks like the 5-11, 176-pound Krejci actually challenged Pouliot anyway:
But regardless of what happened a month ago between Krejci and Pouliot, Lucic’s attempt to ignite a second bout was ill-timed both in terms of the time left in the game and the proximity in time to the Chara/Pacioretty hit.

QUOTE from MCK: “Lucic is not afraid of Laraque and has never backed down from him. Also established fact. Habs fans live in fantasyland.”
What fantasyland do you live in?!? Laraque challenged Lucic in practically every single game the Bruins and Habs played against each other and not once did Lucic have the balls to drop the gloves. He’ll take on Komisarek and Pouliot but suddenly disappears when Laraque shows up.
And it’s funny to see you all mention up sticking for your teammate and sending a message. Krejci initiated the fight, got his ass kicked (AND Pouliot eased up after Krejci went down), so Lucic has to go out and act like a gorilla a mere half hour after Pacioretty was almost killed? Get some class!
Pouliot is not a fighter, even if he won all his NHL fights but they weren’t exactly against noted pugilists either. He’s tall, yea, but he’s skinny like a twig. Oh right, the perfect player for Lucic to pick on.
If the media screamed at the Bruins for not sticking up for their teammates after Savard went down then maybe the media should scream at the Bruinsto LEARN how to do it. If a player picks a fight and loses it, then why should his team put out a vendetta such that a bully has to go win the fight for him a month later? Are the Bruins truly that stupid or are they just a gang of classless violent, thugs?
A couple of seasons ago, George Laraques asked Lucic if he wanted to go. Big tough Lucic skated away to change his shorts which he just soiled.
Big George asked Thorton, and Chara. Neither wanted anything to do with Laraque. Lucic and friends pick their spots.
That is just embarassing behavior for Lucic, who is otherwise an awesome player. I’m a Wings fan but I try to watch all original six matchups, and the Bruins behavior of late against Montreal is patently ridiculous. Why don’t you try and play hockey like you do against other clubs and relax on the “intimidation game”? Lucic calling Pouliot out for his fight against Krejci is retarded. Look at the video, Kreijci instigates 100% http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM0Uhf9LI70
Pouliot didn’t go looking for him it was the other way around! Come on Bruins, get your head on straight or you will not beat this faster team on the scoreboard
Hey Tremha, “See you in the playoffs” “Legion of Smurfs” Before making such comments about the Habs, you should look up the Habs record versus the Big Bad Bruins over the last 2 years. I don’t think you will will be so cocky after that.

Chara’s hit on Pacioretty, we can debate all night long if it was an accident or a cheap shot.
But one thing is for sure,
SHAME ON YOU !!! CLAUDE JULIEN
for your teams behavior in the third period.
All of the bruins fans who think so much of milan Lucic knowhim from his short time with Boston.I watched Lucic play his Jr hockey with the Vancouver Giants in the WHL.He had the same reputation in Jr hockey as he has in Boston, that is he would fight, cheapshot, any player who was smaller than himself but when he was challenged by another player bigger than his self he would dissappear. His team won a Memorial cup while he was there but it wasn’t because of Lucic,in fact his coaches where scared that he would do something dumb that his ice time was cut so he wouldn’t hurt his team by doing something dumb.He was very disliked by every team in the WHL because of his dirty play.He was a typical “school yard bully’the kind of kid who would knock a smaller kids lunch out of hishand but if the smaller kids older brother showed up Lucic would set a record for the 100 yard dash.
No pat, Lucic will only fight when the cubs are losing. he declined invitations with Neil before and Clowe when the cubs were winning…… He picks his spots just like every other guy who isn’t a heavy weight. It makes sense, right? So why would Pouliot want to fight Lucic, he would obviously get beat, and wouldn’t be a fair fight at all, hence Lucic going after him. Class which is missing in Lucic’s game just like the whole cubs organization i’m afraid has crept into the league office with Campbell and Bettman farcing it up yet again!

A little hypocritical seeing as if Lucic is much closer to Laraque’s size then Pouliot is to Lucic.
where was Lucic when Laraque came knocking?
Isn’t it ironic how hippocrital Lucic is. Wasn’t it he who backed down from Laraque after fighting with Komisarek. Wasn’t he who refused to fight Moen in the previous game. Seems to me that Lucy only picks on fights with smaller players who don’t fight but avoids tougher players like the B’s do the Canadiens in the Playoffs. I’d love to see him challenge Mara or Moen to fight and see see what happens.
As for going to Krejci’s defense, well that game was a month earlier as this blogger describes. Not to mention the Krejci challenged Pouliot and not vice versa. What kind of twisted, brain dead goon thinks in those terms? Is he going to challenge a guy who fought Kaberle in grade 2?
Please add to that the that the yellowness of the Bruins players in the prvious game when they sent out there tough guys to beat up Pyatt and Spacek. I’m sure they were really happy about that after the game. So in recap:
Boston players beat up smaller players = good
Montreal player defending himself againt smaller player = bad
With logic like that, it shows why you have such a hated and reviled franchise. By the way, we also have more Cups than you, 19 more to be specific!
Loochichh is a clown with no respect. He has alot of talent with little brain matter. The idiot could have done that crap the next game. What a tool. Waste of good talent.

I guess you’re probably talking about Milan Lucic who didn’t want to fight against Georges Laraque and was pissing in his pants when Laraque was on the ice.
Seriously, Chara is a chicken. He tried to injure Pacioretty…and he doesn’t admit it. That’s lame. As simple as that.
Lucic displayed a total lack of class. But he’s great for shots after the whistle and going after smaller forwards. Quite the hero.
What do you expect from this cheesy little waste of skin puke, who runs at players half his size every game. When the situation works in his favour, than he’s a big tough guy, but when it’s not in his favour he skates away with his tail between his legs. What a joke, he and this whole organization is from the top with seebass to the bottom with the goon crew, getting away with sucker punch’s, gooning it up, illegal hits etc etc etc.

LOL. Habs fans just can’t let the Laraque stupidity go.
Try to tell them that a 20+ goal scorer won’t fight a goon, and they keep on insisting it’s because he’s “scared.” I thought Habs fans were supposed to know hockey? Obviously not.
The only thing topping that is the guy using “fag” and “classless” in the same post.
Classic.
I’ve been a Bruins fan for a long time and I can say I’ve never been so disgusted with the team.
We were beaten in the actual game, destroyed one of their prospects, and then Lucic managed to squabble any bit of pride and decency we had remaining. Julien needs to talk to these guys, or somebody needs to talk to Julien
Full-disclosure, I’m a Canadiens fan through-and-through.
I don’t have a problem if Lucic takes issue with the Pouliot-Krejci fight, but I found it beyond distasteful that he chose to do it when he did. Regardless of anyone’s thoughts on the nature of the Chara-Pacioretty hit, the fact is that a 22-year-old kid came within inches of dying on the ice that night. Lucic should know better. Kudos to the author of this blog for pointing that out – you’re the first person I’ve seen writing about this.
Fact of the matter is, both Thornton and McQuaid challenged White and Moen MULTIPLE TIMES in the 2nd period after going down both 2-0 and 3-0 and each and every time they just glided away with their skirts on… watch the 2nd period, you will see what im talking about
Canadians fans crack me up.
Lucic is an awesome player… 30 goals , can fight, play physical… I would love him in Montreal… but this was a bit out of line… as you noted, very good and honnest entry… proves that bruins and habs fans can agree … just wish it was always this way
Lucic refuses to fight Laraque which is the same size as him… Shut up Milan!
