Peverley/By S. Bradley
WILMINGTON, Mass. — In an effort to re-energize his team’s offense, Bruins head coach Claude Julien made a tweak to his lines for practice today at Ristuccia Arena.
Mark Recchi shifted to the line with Michael Ryder and Chris Kelly, while Rich Peverley moved up to the combination featuring Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. Peverley was on right wing with Bergeron at center. In the Bruins’ previous formation, the right-hand-shooting Peverley had been playing the off wing.
The other two lines stayed the same, with Tyler Seguin and Daniel Paille still both part of the fourth line.

@Nifty – I agree completely. It’s extremely frustrating to watch how SLOW Rex is on the ice with his line mates; I’m glad MK wrote this, now I don’t feel alone in my thoughts!
It only took them almost two years to come to this conclusion. Rex hasn’t been a second line player since 06/07. Only in Boston though. I love the guy but he should be on the third line and moved up if necessary.
I think that change would be awsome Boise. Not saying anything bad about Kelly. Seguin has more of an offensive upside.
This is long overdue, Recchi can’t keep up on this line.
This is not meant as a slight against Mark but for god sakes he is 43, I don’t expect him to keep up with berg & marsh. Now is the time to start organizing these changes as well, get a 2nd line figured out a.s.a.p. then iron out your 3rd & 4th lines before the big show starts in april.
I like it as well. but i start to wonder how much that weakens the third line and their ability to control play.. ryder, while playing well as of late, has been a puck hog .. recchi is getting slower by the minute and kelly doesnt seem to have the skill to match his effort.. but im def. excited to see what the second line can do!
GR90- I agree I love Rex, but at this point he should be a 3rd line guy. You can see the difference in speed of the younger bergy and marchand when he’s out there with them. Peverely makes that line crazy fast
Now that Rex is on the 3rd line, maybe it’s defensively sound enough to move Seguin up and Kelly to merlot.
I approve of this change. Hope it sticks. That could be a dangerous, speedy line when it clicks.
