Murphy
Here’s what NHL Sr. VP of Hockey Operations Mike Murphy said in a released statement after the league today did not fine or suspend Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara for his hit on Montreal’s Max Pacioretty last night:
“After a thorough review of the video I can find no basis to impose supplemental discipline. This hit resulted from a play that evolved and then happened very quickly — with both players skating in the same direction and with Chara attempting to angle his opponent into the boards. I could not find any evidence to suggest that, beyond this being a correct call for interference, that Chara targeted the head of his opponent, left his feet or delivered the check in any other manner that could be deemed to be dangerous.
“This was a hockey play that resulted in an injury because of the player colliding with the stanchion and then the ice surface. In reviewing this play, I also took into consideration that Chara has not been involved in a supplemental discipline incident during his 13-year NHL career.”

Two things amaze me about the Bruins these days. Firstly, every player on the team has gotten a little tougher and a lot more mouthy since George Laraque left the Habs. Secondly, anyone ever notice how selective Lucic is when picking someone to fight and how his helment never comes off during a fight
.
Funny, After the game, I didn’t see Marchand mouthing off how the Habs are a dirty team. Then again it’s hard to put down another team after your team mate possibly ended another players career with the cheapest play of the year.

I would love to stalkto mike murphy (no doubt called murph to all his friends which must include chara) so if anyone can hook him up with me I’d love to have a chat
Poor chara, the guy just does this naturally. what a crock of horseshit. The hit was vicious and it was intentional. He should be fired or at least suspended for the rest of season. but no Mike Murphy (probably closely controled by colin campbell who wants to give every advantage to his son’s team) says no problem with this. Let chara carry on his rampage. chara should be stripped of his captancy (what a great role model for your kids right) and fired. Yes I am a Habs fan but had the skate been on the other foot I would be saying the same thing. The NHL ruling was a complete farce.
I don’t think anyone was calling for Hunwick to be suspended after giving Savard another concussion this season because *it was a clean hit*. It sucks that he’s out for the season. It’s even worse what happened to Pacioretti.
I can’t believe I’ve never seen a bad hit like this at the glass between the benches before, considering the speed and likelihood of checks there. Maybe they should consider removing the glass (or moving it back from the boards) there.
Any Montreal fans that think that Boston fans are happy this happened when we have had this happen now 3 times in 3 years is crazy. Not to mention that we now have to deal with you trolling our blogs.
And if any Boston fans *are* happy, then they are just assholes.
The fact is that the stanchion caused the injury, not the hit (push). So if anyone wants to bitch and complain it should be about the structure. It seems clear to me that those stanchions should have some sort of breakway point so this doesnt happen again. Sort of like the goals do now. Its the one area of the ice with no give, and it was only a matter of time before this happened. As a bruins fan I hope Max recovers quickly. see ya on the 24th
Ryan Callahan or the Dubinsky guy broke Boychuk’s arm with a slash earlier this year, there were no suspension. Are we going to suspend players for every injury?
too bad you guys don’t take the time to go watch the hits. If you would notice, I have been saying 1-2 games was warranted. As it stand though, your passion speaks for itself. If you aren’t up for a rational argument and would prefer to talk about butchers, then please leave us alone. We are fine with those up for a debate, to the others, just go commiserate with one another.
I don’t think its terrible that he wasn’t suspended. He does not deserve 10 games like some Habs fans have called for. If he had gotten 2 or 3 that would have been fine by me. Either way, Chara probably could have done something different, but when you’ve played a sport for so long, it is merely muscle memory to drive a guy into the boards. I feel bad for Max. I like having guys that I can have sports hate for, not real hate. I hope he gets better, and I hope I can enjoy watching him be in the middle of scrums for years to come.
Bullshit hes left hand hold is head and make sur he hit exactely where he want…We all know chara wass piss off on max since the game before on the brawl he try to go beat him up and some player help Max same as after the goal in OT
chara knew where he was he didnt did a hit he push im over to finally finishing whit is glove on th ehelmet
Muscle memory? Does that mean a butcher can stab his wife?
Chara was behind Pacioretty, and from that vantage point could clearly see the stanchion coming. Chara’s arm came out and pushed his head into that stanchion at the exact moment it would do the most damage possible.
Chara’s not suspended but let’s not hear any more complaints about Bergeron and Savard cause when your boys do it, it’s just a hockey play.
Habs fans:
go watch other hits by Chara. Notice the similarities in his motion to this hit. It was nothing he doesn’t normally do. It’s muscle memory, not a deliberate targeting of the head or anything like that. it is certainly high, but then again Chara is the biggest guy in the league. A little bit of common sense helps things along.
And again, we know what it’s like losing a player to a season-ending injury, it happens to us every friggin year.
RD: I looked at it. It was an accident.
WOW ,i would like to see this happen to MR cambels son and then we might see some sort of suspention ,bruin , philly , nothing but goons .seems to be working ……..last cup won wen hahahahahahahah once a loser always a loser
Thx RD its ridiculous these 2 guy where in a war Chara took each oppoturnity to fight Max but gill or someone always was there,Sure he didnt want to injury that much but the intention was there…ine the video we clearly see he wait the last second and dont hit Max bu tpush it and like i saig push whit hes arms glove….Look at the pic or RD and tell me chara didnt know where he was on the rink If it would be an accident Zdeno would have turn hislef and see the dommage he didnt turnover and keep playing becuz he knew what he did
So you guys are going to gloat while the kid has a broken neck? Real classy. It must be difficult for Savard and Bergeron to have fans that would salivate at the prospect of them getting injured if only they wore a different jersey.
Have a look at this shot and say it was an accident.

I predicted one or two games, but Murphy makes the good point that Chara is a clean player.
Chara is lucky, but after he ever gets in “almost trouble” he always behaves himself almost too much for like the next two years or so. Not to the point that he is a liability of course, but he will play smarter than he has in recent games.
Good news for the Bruins especially considering their defenseman depth right now.
I understand the bitterness for Habs fans, but the trolling has gotten old.
I am glad they did not try to make an example out of Chara and I do agree with everything said above, however I do think Chara should have received a 2 game suspension. He was responsible for what happened even if it was not intensional.
Where are all the Montreal fans now???
Yahp. Suck on that Eric Engels
I am surprised that there is no suspension, but I do think the mechanics of the hit were sound. The area of the ice is what made the hit so dangerous.
I think it’s the right decision, but we know who will soon enough light this post up.
