Chara hits Pacioretty
BOSTON — While it might be no consolation to Montreal forward Max Pacioretty while he’s recovering from a fractured vertebrae and a severe concussion, Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara feels bad his hit caused such damage.
Yesterday while speaking to TSN, Pacioretty said he disagreed with the notion that Chara didn’t intentionally shove his head into the stanchion.
“I understand, he’s in the hospital, he has a right to be emotional and I respect that,” said Chara after today’s morning skate at TD Garden in preparation for an evening game with Buffalo. “I obviously feel bad that he got hurt. As a hockey player, we all feel bad that something like that happened – doesn’t matter if you’re the home team or the visiting team. I’m wishing him a fast recovery and hopefully he can be back on the ice soon and that’s all we love to do. We love to play hockey. Obviously when we got out there we take risks, and sometimes we do get hurt. But it’s just very unfortunate.”
Some are questioning Chara’s intentions on the play due to his history with Pacioretty, with whom he engaged in a post-game shoving match after a Pacioretty overtime goal earlier this season. Chara, however, says he didn’t know who he was checking into the boards.
“No [I didn’t know it was him.] … It was the faceoff and we tried to set up the play, and basically the puck went to the other side and we were racing for the puck. And I had no idea he was out on the ice. I had no idea it was him,” said Chara.
As far as reports out of Montreal that there might be criminal charges on the way, Chara says he’s not too worried about that right now.
“I got some media information on that this morning, but like I said, right now I’m focusing on playing my game and playing hockey,” he said.
The Bruins are not scheduled to return to Montreal this season, but the Canadiens come to Boston March 24.
1) Chara’s arm on Pacioretty is not a camera trick. He rubbed the kid out and finished it off, with his arm. Did he know the stanchion would be there at that exact moment? I’m not in his head but based on Chara’s angle of approach to the stanchion, and his angle on Pacioretty, I there is a a good possibility he knew there would be an impact. Did he think only the kid’s head would hit the stanchion? I doubt it. That would be calling Chara homicidal.
2) I find it a bit odd that Chara would claim to not know it was Pacioretty. We have some hockey players on here. I can almost see the quote now “If you complain about this, you’ve never played hockey etc etc”.
At an elite hockey level, how often do you line up for a faceoff not knowing who is standing in front of you? If you’re a norris trophy winning defenceman, do you really think you have no idea who’s in front of you? If you have a guy that you can’t stand, and have been chasing him around for a couple games trying to nail, is it really possible that the actual time you end up nailing him you had no idea it was him? Again, it just doesn’t seem plausible. But Chara’s response is his response. The kid jumped, hockey play, unfortunate, no idea it was him, didn’t want to hurt him. My dog ate it. Well coached indeed!
3) Stop hating on the french people. Sure, they’re english isn’t great but it’s their second language. I’ve had the pleasure to visit Massachusetts several times and I can’t imagine where you guys find the nerve to criticize anyone’s use of the English language. It’s your only language. What’s your excuse for butchering it? “Chowdah!”
Chara knows the score here. Anywhere he goes, he knows that we know he meant to ride him into the corner like that. Z has his leg under Pacioretty and extends his arm, perfectly timed with landing him into the stanchion. Zdeno, we all know the score.
Guys I am from Quebec and now live in the US for the past 10 years. What’s with all these comments on the broken english, I speak French, English , Italian and most of the people from quebec speak 2-3 languages, that alot more than most of my american friends. And quess what you also make fun the the spanish latino’s here. STOP Guys and when you can speak a 2 language then post your stupid comments
Admit that if the league had suspended him for 1-3 games, we wouldn’t be talking about this anymore. That’s what’s the league should have done.
Liar he knew its was him and he knew where he was.
Poor little lucic u was hidding and shy when Laraque was there 😛
65% of Boston think Zdeno should have been suspensed u might be a minority

Anyone else tired of Habs fans trotting out that photograph referenced in the yahoo article to support the notion that Chara had his hand on Pacio’s face? Chara’s wrist is on the guy’s shoulder, so there is no way Chara’s hand could reach Pacioretty’s face.
So this picture is nothing more than a trick of perspective — like blotting out the sun with your thumb. Just further proof, I suppose, that habs fans lack perspective. . .
Can the DCPP also investigate it as a hate crime or racism? That would be the cherry to top off this sundae.
I’m a Bruin fan who lives in Canada and have a different perspective than fans in the US.
In general French Canadians love to complain. They are never happier than when they have been wronged. So live it up!
I do think that Chara should have got a game or 2. Do they have reason to complain? Sure. But, we’ll be hearding about this play for years. The Hab fans now have someone to blame. And they can point to how wronged they have been. Blame Chara for everything from this point to the end of the season.
Heck, the next referendum will list the Chara hit as a major reason to separate!
I find it funny someone from Quebec pretends to be the injured party on this site IN BROKEN ENGLISH when Pacioretty is from oh wait, NEW ENGLAND!
Can’t believe it is the front headline on Yahoo.com right now. This made mainstream news.

[…] know he was hitting Max Pacioretty, given their history, isn’t going to help turn that tide. From The Bruins Blog: "No [I didn't know it was him.] … It was the faceoff and we tried to set up the play, […]
Let’s hope they base the investigation around Tanner Glass’ statement…it would be dropped quick.
Tanner Glass may have gone to Dartmouth, but he’s not a hockey player. He’s said himself that he only started fighting when he was trying to “make a name for himself”. I don’t think anyone this side of British Colombia cares about his opinion. Chris Neil came out and defended Chara… so which goon’s opinion would you trust?
Its early still…just wait til the pick up the scent
I don’t mind the Habs fans coming to debate the whole thing, but now that every other post is a link to the same picture or second grade English it is starting to get old.
@MCK…you took the words out of my mouth. And I would like to second the motion to ban the word turnbuckle. A turnbuckle is a mechanical device used to increase and decrease the tension on a wire rope. What he ran into is by definition a stanchion.
From MaxP:
He push me up to the side, and aim my head to the glass whit is hand,We all know that dangerous part of the ice is there and he knew it was there, its not a head hit but should been judge like a head it.He said its an accident i bet he think i jumped but i would forgive him if he say that he did an error and hes intention wasnt that much.
What disgust me is the league, they should have give him a 2-3-4game suspension
Bryan, it is a tough call between this one and the one below about the police investigation. Both are about to explode
MCK… you and I are on the same page!
2 thinkgs to mark down:
1) Chara said that so now we have a fact from the source. BOOM. ROASTED Montreal fans.
2) Matt- I think the post is going to quickly become the most blogged about post in the past week.
I love this broken English trolling nonsense. He didn’t get suspended, that is all.
Well, if Tanner Glass said so, it must be true. What does Santa Claus think really happened?
I’d like to start a movement to prevent the use of the word ‘turnbuckle’. Maybe I’m wrong but until now I’ve never heard that term used in regards to the stancion. It’s just what hockey needs. People using wrasslin’ terminology. The problem with wrestling is the ref lets too much go.
Liar x2 u saying u didnt know it was Max woww what not true even mayb 50%think u didnt an other 50%said u did Max feel ur arm on his head
Tanner Glass is sure ur intent was to injury even if he knew nothing about the story behind theses 2…
