Heatley/By S. Bradley
Bruins winger Brad Marchand wasn’t the only one to deliver an elbow to an opponent’s head Tuesday night.
San Jose’s Dany Heatley was at it too.
Today Heatley had his phone hearing with the NHL and he received a two-game suspension, as confirmed by TSN.ca. As you can see, Heatley’s elbow to Dallas’ Steve Ott was much more intentional than Marchand’s, as the puck is already out of the area and Heatley sort of goes out of his way to go at the Stars’ agitator.
Heatley had no priors, so that definitely helped him get a lenient sentence.
Just a rookie in the NHL, Marchand also hasn’t been disciplined yet by the NHL. His hearing about his hit on R.J. Umberger is scheduled for Thursday morning. When you take into account that there was still a puck pursuit going on and take into account Heatley’s suspension, you’re probably looking at just a game out for Marchand if there’s any suspension at all.

Matt. Rookie mistake. You can never guess what the disciplin committee is going to do in the NHL. NEVER.
No evidence Ott dived, he looked hurt. Then again, maybe he’s just gotten really, REALLY good at it from doing it his whole career.
If we are directly comparing the two hits, then this sets Marchand at a fine or a 1 game suspension. I honestly hope it’s the latter because that should get him to settle down and play like he was.
Steve Ott should have gotten one for diving after
Yeah, if Marchand gets more that Heatley, I’ll be shocked. To be honest, I’m shocked that Heatley didn’t get way more than two games. Yeah, he’s not a repeat offender, but his Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka flying elbow was so far out of the rules of the game and away from the play, that it was comical. Marchand’s chicken wing, while ill advised and not a good hit, was within the play for the puck. Not in anyway extracurricular.
Anyone else hear that? Silence, you say? No, thats no ordinary silence. Thats the enormous void left behind by Joe Thornton’s whining.
Hmmm, very curious…
At least he hits Ott….Ott dropped like he got hit by chara… heatly should get a bonus!!! then intercom system plays some Deadmau5…….
I think there should be a game although I think if Heatley gets two then Marchand’s is 1 and no more than 2 games.
Marchand’s wasn’t as bad as Heatley’s IMO-but it was still a dangerous play. I honestly think Marchand could maybe benefit from a game or two in the press box anyway-I love the fire he plays with but lately he seems to have made some dumb moves that mostly seem to indicate he isn’t thinking (like the interference penalty the other night which was pretty boneheaded too).
