We know the Bruins’ forward alignment tonight in Nashville will be definitely be different than it was in Columbus Tuesday.
The defense pairs could change as well when the Bruins take on the Predators tonight at 8 p.m. EST.
With Brad Marchand suspended, Michael Ryder should be back in there after he was a healthy scratch for the win over the Blue Jackets. Ryder, Rich Peverley or Tyler Seguin seem like the most likely candidates to move up to the second line with Patrice Bergeron and Mark Recchi — the pair of forwards Marchand practiced with yesterday.
The Bruins have to hope that in his mind, Ryder has a better understanding of why he was benched than he let on in public. In the Boston Globe today, Ryder sounded like a guy who think he’s done nothing wrong. Ryder was quoted:
“I didn’t think I was playing bad bad. I thought I was skating pretty well. It’s just that people thought this was the best way to go about it, I guess.’’
Not sure what Ryder’s definition of “bad” is, but obviously head coach Claude Julien had a different opinion of the winger’s play to finally scratch him after a season and two thirds of inconsistent play.
On the back end, Adam McQuaid should be available, according to Julien, who spoke after the team’s optional morning skate. McQuaid left practice early yesterday because he was banged up. Recovering defenseman Andrew Ference could also feel well enough to play, so the Bruins might have a decision to make after warm-ups.
The optional nature of practice made it impossible to determine the starting goaltender, so we’ll find out in a few hours.

Jangles you win the prize for calling the lines on post #9
Bo, I dig your first set of lines.
Ryder is not worth his cap hit, but I think he can still contribute as an offensive threat on the 3rd line. He’s as streaky as the come, but when he’s hot he’s got one of the best releases in the game. I wouldn’t mind seeing the B’s re-sign him for around 2 mil, but not much more.
George – Nice call on the Tyler-Ryder comparison. They need to get another line going – good an argument as any to flip these two to see if something clicks. Still got quite a few games before it gets serious.
P.S. I’m still hoping for a Bergy/Segzy game ( stealing nicknames from you Hungus because I like them)
Eric, just to add to your stats…..Seguin and Ryder are tied with 9 even strength goals and Ryder only has 5 more even strength assists. Ryder has almost double the PP time than Seguin does, so to me the difference between them statistically is heavily weighted by the PP time on ice.
or
Rex-Bergy-Ryder
Ty-Kelly-Pev
I would love to see him put on any other pair of colors than what he wears right now.
Seguin might not be ready for the NHL, but his ability to play at the NHL level is about on par with that of Ryder. Most useless player on our roster.
Looch – DK – Horton
Ty – Bergy – Pev
Rex – Kelly – Ryder
Paille – Soup – Thorty
pev deserves the 2nd line shot, but i’d give it to segzy to balance out the lines.
Wow, Ryder is really oblivious to how poorly he plays. He has almost twice the ice time as Seguin, yet he only has 6 more goals. Great production Ryder. I don’t even think you can call him a mediocre player, more like below average, and poor. He has a great scoring touch once every 12-14 games, but on EVERY other aspect of the game he is a bum. I too can’t wait til’ his $4 million is off the books. Chiarelli is a real idiot giving a guy that was scratched frequently during the season and benched in the playoffs for the Canadiens a couple times. Good job Peter.
I hope Ference makes it back into the line up tonight. Before this season I wasn’t a fan of his game, but he’s changed my mind this season. It’s a noticeable difference on defense when he’s not in the lineup.
Ryder is so oblivious. It’s painful. He can take his mediocrity somewhere else after this season… maybe the Caps will pick him up?
Mark, well said,
I hope Ryder doesn’ think that playing “bad” is okay as oppose to “*bad* bad.”
Ryder should have said “Yeah, I need to be doing some things better, and this will serve as motivation”. Can’t wait till hes gone after the season…
